Evaluation of Basic Life Support Training Given to Parents in Newborn Intensive Care Unit

Abstract

Aim: The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of basic life support BLS training, given to the mothers, on the level of knowledge and the state of anxiety before discharge with their babies from the neonatal intensive care unit NICU .Material And Methods: This prospective study was performed with mothers of infants discharged from NICU. BLS training was given to the groups consisting of 3-8 people by using visual materials. Before and afte the BLS training “Infant basic life support training for famillies”, “State anxiety scale” and “trait anxiety scale” were applied. Pre- and post-training anxiety scores and the correct response rates to the BLS training questionnaire were compared.Results: A hundred and thirty mothers were included in the study. 71.5% of the mothers had not received any previous training about BLS. 11.5% had previously encountered a condition requiring BLS for their babies. Yenidoğan Yoğunbakım Ünitesinden Taburcu Edilen Bebeklerin Ebeveynlerine Verilen Temel Yaşam Desteği Eğitiminin Değerlendirilmesi

Abstract

Amaç: Yenidoğan yoğunbakım ünitesinden YYBÜ taburculuk öncesi annelere verilen temel yaşam desteği TYD eğitiminin, konuyla ilgili bilgi düzeyine ve kaygı durumuna etkisinin araştırılmasıdır.Gereç ve Yöntemler: Bu prospective çalışma YYBÜ’den taburcu edilen bebeklerin anneleri ile gerçekleştirildi. 3-8 kişiden oluşturulan gruplara görsel materyal kullanılarak TYD eğitimi verildi. Eğitim öncesi ve sonrası olmak üzere ikişer kez ‘Ailelere yönelik infant temel yaşam desteği eğitimi anketi’, ‘durumluk kaygı ölçeği’ ve ‘sürekli kaygı ölçeği’ uygulandı. Eğitim öncesi ve sonrası TYD eğitimi anketine verilen doğru cevap oranları ile kaygı ölçeği puanları karşılaştırıldı.Bulgular: Çalışmaya toplam 130 anne alındı. Annelerin % 71.5’i daha önce TYD ile ilgili herhangi bir eğitim almamıştı. % 11.5’i daha önce kendi çocuğunda TYD gerektiren bir durumla karşılaşmıştı. TYD bilgisini ölçen anket sorularına eğitim sonrası verilen doğru cevap oranı, eğitim öncesine göre anlamlı olarak daha fazlaydı p < 0.05 . Eğitim sonrası durumluk kaygı ölçeği puanları, eğitim öncesine göre anlamlı olarak düşük bulundu p < 0.001 .Sonuç: YYBÜ’den taburcu edilen bebeklerin annelerine verilen TYD eğitimi, annelerin konuyla ilgili bilgi düzeyini arttırırken, durumluk kaygı düzeyinde azalma sağlamıştır. Ebeveynlere yönelik uygun TYD eğitim programlarının geliştirilmesi ve yaygınlaştırılması, hem gerektiğinde uygun müdahale ile ölüm ve sakatlıkların azaltılmasına hem de ebeveyn öz yeterliliğinin arttırılmasına katkı sağlayabilir.
