Ethical Principles and Publication Policy

PUBLICATION POLICY

Manuscripts submitted to the Çankırı Karatekin University Journal of the Institute of Social Sciences are first examined in a preliminary review in terms of adherence to the author guidelines and ethical principles. Studies found to be in compliance with the journal’s publication policies are then forwarded to referees. A double-blind peer review process is applied during the referee stage. Manuscripts for which revisions are requested in the referee reports are sent back to the authors so that the required revisions can be made. After the revisions, the manuscript may be resent to the referees who wish to re-evaluate it. As a result of the referee evaluations, studies deemed suitable for publication by at least two referees are included in the publication process. Manuscripts included in the publication process are sent to a proofreader and, for manuscripts in foreign languages, to a language editor. At this stage, if the authors do not make the corrections requested by the proofreader and the language editor, the manuscripts are returned to the authors.

Reminder: During the evaluation process, manuscripts that have been subjected to a formal preliminary review by the editors are sent to at least two referees to be evaluated in terms of content and format. However, based on the evaluation made by the journal editorial board or the editorial board in line with the journal’s aims, scope, and author guidelines, a manuscript may be rejected without being sent to referees or at any stage of the process.

The publication processes implemented in the Çankırı Karatekin University Journal of the Institute of Social Sciences form the basis for the development and dissemination of knowledge in an impartial and reputable manner. The processes applied in this regard are directly reflected in the quality of the work of authors and the institutions supporting them. Peer-reviewed articles are studies that embody and support the scientific method. At this point, it is important that all stakeholders in the process (authors, readers and researchers, publisher, referees, and editors) comply with standards related to ethical principles. Within the scope of publication ethics of the Journal of the Institute of Social Sciences, all stakeholders are expected to bear the ethical responsibilities outlined below. The ethical duties and responsibilities listed below have been prepared by taking into consideration the guidelines and policies published as open access by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

Authors

It is the responsibility of the author to ensure that the submitted manuscript is of a quality that will contribute to the relevant academic fields.
Studies must be original and based on research.
Although plagiarism screening will be carried out by the journal, all consequences of plagiarism, which is an act of academic dishonesty, will rest entirely with the author.
A manuscript must not be submitted to more than one journal at the same time and must not have been previously submitted to another journal.
It should be ensured that all persons whose names appear as authors have contributed to the research.
Adding individuals with no academic contribution as authors or ordering authors based on non-scientific criteria such as title, age, or gender, rather than contribution, is contrary to research ethics.
It is assumed that authors who submit manuscripts to the journal have read and accepted the journal’s publication and writing principles, and authors are deemed to have undertaken to comply with these principles.
Citations and references must be complete and accurate.

Authors must take into account the “Scientific Research and Publication Ethics Directive” specified by the Council of Higher Education (Yükseköğretim Kurulu – YÖK).

Reviewers

Reviewers should act with the awareness that they are the primary determinants of the academic quality of manuscripts to be published in the journal and should conduct their evaluations with the responsibility of enhancing academic quality.
Reviewers should accept to review only those manuscripts for which they possess the necessary expertise to make an appropriate evaluation, for which they can respect double-blind confidentiality, and for which they can keep all details strictly confidential.
Even after the review process is completed, no information about the reviewed manuscript should be shared with others in any way.
Reviewers should evaluate solely the accuracy of the manuscript’s content and its compliance with academic standards. The fact that the views expressed in the manuscript differ from those of the reviewer should not affect the evaluation.
Reviewer reports must be objective and measured. Insulting, derogatory, or accusatory expressions must be strictly avoided.
Reviewers should avoid superficial and vague statements in their evaluation reports. For negative evaluations, the shortcomings and flaws on which the decision is based should be stated clearly and concretely.
Reviewers must complete their evaluations within the time allotted to them. If they are unable to undertake the review, they should notify the journal within a reasonable time.

Editors

Editors should accept for the evaluation process only those manuscripts that will contribute to the fields specified in the journal’s policy.
Editors must not have any conflict of interest/relationship with accepted or rejected manuscripts.
Editors have full authority and responsibility for accepting or rejecting a manuscript.
It is the responsibility of the editors to ensure the reciprocal confidentiality of the identities of reviewers and authors.
Editors should make every effort to prevent academic dishonesty by ensuring that manuscripts submitted for publication are screened for plagiarism.
It is the duty of the editors to ensure that the preliminary review, refereeing, editing, and publication processes of manuscripts submitted to the journal are completed in a timely and sound manner.

Editors must prioritize academic concerns and criteria when accepting manuscripts for the journal.
