Econometric Evaluation of Turkey’s Human Development Index

Abstract

This study aimed to analytically demonstrate the course of human development index (HDI) of Tur- key between years 1990 and 2011. The data belonging to the components making up the HDI between these years were calculated. In the study, some statistical methods such as unit root test, regression analysis and trend analysis were utilized. According to the results obtained from the study, the education index, health index and income index were on a constant increase trend. The contributions of the indexes studied to HDI were found as 0.364, 0.300 and 0.300 for education index, income index and health index respectively. Given the contribution of the sub-indexes to HDI, it was found that the HDI score and category of Turkey was on an increase trend depending on GDP rise.

Türkiye’nin İnsani Gelişme Endeksinin Analitik Olarak Değerlendirilmesi

Abstract

Bu çalışma, 1990-2011 yılları arasında Türkiye’nin insani gelişme endeksi (İGE) seyrini analitik olarak ortaya koymak amacını taşır. 1990-2011 yılları arası İGE’ni oluşturan bileşenlere ait veriler hesaplanmıştır. Çalış- mada birim kök testi, regresyon analizi ve trend analizi gibi istatistiksel yöntemlerden yararlanılmıştır. Çalışmadan elde edilen sonuçlara göre, eğitim endeksi, sağlık endeksi ve gelir endeksi süreğen bir şekilde artış eğilimdedir. Ele alınan endekslerin İGE’ ne katkısı; eğitim endeksinin 0.364, gelir endeksinin 0.300 ve sağlık endeksinin 0.300 birim olarak bulunmuştur. Alt endekslerin İGE’ ne katkısı göz önünde bulundurulduğunda, GSYH artışına bağlı olarak Türkiye’nin İGE puanının ve kategorisinin yükselme trendinde olduğu belirlenmiştir.
