Policy on the Use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI)

The Journal of Physical Chemistry and Functional Materials (JPCFM) acknowledges the increasing utilization of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Bard, Claude) in scientific research and manuscript preparation. To uphold academic integrity, transparency, and authorship accountability, the following policy is established:
1. Disclosure Requirement:
Authors must disclose any use of GenAI tools in the preparation of their manuscripts. This includes assistance in writing, data analysis, coding support, or any other aspect of the research process. The specific tool used and its purpose should be clearly stated in the Acknowledgments or Methods section of the manuscript.
2. Author Responsibility:
The use of GenAI does not absolve authors of their responsibility for the content of their work. Authors are fully accountable for the accuracy, originality, and ethical compliance of all submitted material, regardless of AI involvement.
3. GenAI Tools Cannot Be Listed as Authors:
GenAI tools do not meet the criteria for authorship and must not be listed as authors under any circumstances.
4. Ethical Use Only:
GenAI tools should not be used to fabricate data, create false citations, or manipulate results. All content generated must be critically reviewed and validated by the authors to ensure accuracy and integrity.
5. Peer Review Submissions:
Reviewers and editors are also expected to disclose any use of GenAI tools when preparing reports or editorial content.
This policy aligns with recommendations from the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and major academic publishers. Failure to comply may result in manuscript rejection or retraction.
