The Relationship between Body Fat Percentage and Anthropometric and Motoric Performance Characteristics of Football Players

Abstract

This study was planned to examine the relationship between body fat percentage and anthropometric and motoric performance characteristics of football players. A total of 46 football players with an average age of 14.86±1.52 years, sports age of 5.60±2.21 years, average height of 167.52±9.37 cm, average body weight of 57.81±10.02 kg and body mass index of 20.48±2.38 kg.m-2 were selected for the study by simple random sampling method and voluntarily participated in the study. Body fat percentage, anthropometric (body weight, height and body mass index) and performance (10 m acceleration, 30 m sprint, agility, vertical jump and strength tests) measurements were performed. Pearson Correlation Coefficient was calculated to determine the relationships between the variables. There was a moderate positive relationship between body fat percentage and body mass index (r = .582, p<0.01), acceleration (r = .441, p<0.01), sprint (r = .415, p<0.01) and vertical jump (r = .456, p<0.01) values and a low positive relationship between agility values (r = .341, p<0.01). It was found that there was a moderate positive relationship between body mass index and right hand grip strength (r = .619, p<0.01), left hand grip strength (r = .618, p<0.01) and a low positive relationship between back strength values (r = .377, p<0.01). As a conclusion, we can assume that maintaining the skills gained throughout the season with the training of young football players in the wellplanned training programs of lower and upper limb muscle strength will affect the performance development of the players in a positive way.

Futbolcuların Vücut Yağ Yüzdesi ile Antropometrik ve Motorik Performans Özellikleri Arasındaki İlişki

Abstract

Bu çalışma futbolcuların vücut yağ yüzdesi ile antropometrik ve motorik performans özellikleri arasındaki ilişkilerinin incelenmesi amacı ile planlanmıştır. Araştırmaya futbol oynayan ortalama yaşları 14.86±1.52 yıl, spor yaşı 5.60±2.21 yıl, ortalama boy uzunlukları 167.52±9.37 cm, ortalama vücut ağırlıkları 57.81±10.02 kg ve beden kütle indeksi 20.48±2.38 kg.m⁻2 olan toplam 46 futbolcu basit rastgele örnekleme yöntemi ile araştırma için seçilmiş ve gönüllü olarak çalışmaya katılmıştır. Futbolculara vücut yağ yüzdesi, antropometrik (Vücut Ağırlığı, Boy Uzunluğu ve Beden Kütle Indeksi) ve performans (10 m İvmelenme, 30 metre sürat, Çeviklik, dikey sıçrama ve kuvvet testleri) ölçümleri uygulanmıştır. Değişkenler arasındaki ilişkilerin tespit edilmesi için Pearson Korelasyon Katsayısı hesaplanmıştır. Vücut yağ yüzdesi ile beden kitle indeksi (r = .582, p<0.01), ivmelenme (r = .441, p<0.01), sürat (r = .415, p<0.01) ve dikey sıçrama (r = .456, p<0.01) değerleri arasında orta düzeyde pozitif bir ilişki, çeviklik değerleri arasında ise düşük düzeyde pozitif bir ilişki (r = .341, p<0.01) olduğu görülmüştür. Beden kitle indeksi ile sağ el kavrama kuvveti (r = .619, p<0.01), sol el kavrama kuvveti (r = .618, p<0.01) değerleri arasında pozitif yönlü orta düzeyde bir ilişki, sırt kuvveti değerleri arasında ise pozitif yönlü düşük düzeyde bir ilişki (r = .377, p<0.01) olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Sonuç olarak antrenörlerin genç futbol oyuncularının mevcut antrenman programlarında alt ve üst ekstremite kas kuvvetini geliştirici antrenmanlarını dikkatli hazırlamaları oyuncuların performans gelişimini olumlu yönde etkileyecektir.
