Investigation of abuse situations exposed to nursing students: A systematic review

Abstract

Aim: In this study, it was aimed to examine the abuse situations to which nursing students were exposed. Method: This study is a systematic review research. Web of Science, Science Direct, Pubmed, Medline and ULAKBIM databases were used for the search. Data between January 2013 and January 2023 were screened. Databases were searched with the keywords "abuse" and "nursing student". The systematic review process was conducted according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. Results: A total of 5 studies, including 3 cross-sectional, 1 descriptive cross-sectional and 1 mixed design study, were analyzed. The types of abuse that the students were exposed to were determined as dating violence (n=2), verbal abuse (n=3), psychological abuse (n=1), and sexual abuse (n=3). The problems experienced by the students as a result of abuse exposure were determined as ignoring, feeling overwhelmed, ending communication, anxiety, panic attacks, physical symptoms, loss of confidence and self-esteem. Conclusions and Recommendations: It was concluded that student nurses were mostly exposed to emotional abuse and were psychologically affected. It is recommended that the types of abuse and coping with abuse should be added to the course content

HEMŞİRELİK ÖĞRENCİLERİNİN MARUZ KALDIĞI İSTİSMAR DURUMLARININ İNCELENMESI: SİSTEMATİK DERLEME

Abstract

Amaç: Bu çalışmada, hemşirelik öğrencilerinin maruz kaldığı istismar durumlarının incelenmesi amaçlandı. Yöntem: Bu çalışma, sistematik derleme araştırmasıdır. Tarama için Web of Science, Science Direct, Pubmed, Medline ve ULAKBİM veri tabanları kullanıldı. Ocak 2013-Ocak 2023 tarihleri arasındaki veriler tarandı. Veri tabanları "abuse", "nursing student", “istismar”, “hemşirelik öğrencisi” anahtar kelimeleriyle tarandı. Sistematik derleme süreci Sistematik İncelemeler ve Meta Analizler için Tercih Edilen Raporlama Öğeleri (PRISMA) kılavuzundaki yönergelere göre gerçekleştirildi. Bulgular: 3 kesitsel, 1 tanımlayıcı kesitsel, 1 karma desen araştırma olmak üzere toplamda 5 araştırma incelendi. Öğrencilerin maruz kaldığı istismar çeşitleri; duygusal istismar çeşitlerinden flört şiddeti (n=2), sözlü istismar (n=3), psikolojik istismar (n=1), cinsel istismar (n=3) olarak tespit edildi. Öğrencilerin istismar maruziyeti sonucunda yaşadıkları problemler, görmezden gelme, bunalmış hissetme, iletişimi sonlandırma, kaygı, panik atak, fiziksel belirtiler, güven ve benlik saygısı kaybı olarak belirlendi. Sonuç ve Öneriler: Öğrenci hemşirelerin en çok duygusal istismara maruz kaldıkları ve psikolojik olarak etkilendikleri sonucuna varıldı. İstismar türleri ve istismar ile baş etme konularının ders içeriklerine eklenmesi önerilmektedir.
