Relationship Between Income Inequality and Economic Freedom: An Empirical Evaluation for OECD Countries

Abstract

The concept of economic freedom, refers to the possibility of individuals to be in economic activities without restrictive or coercive intervention and  freely give direction the resources that they possess.  Economic freedom determines the structure of the economic system and  may constitute an explanatory factor for growth and the distribution of income. The purpose of this paper is to empirically test to the impact of economic freedom on distribution of income inequality for the  QECD countries by using 2015 data and cross-sectional analysis method. According to the empirical results of the study, it is found that economic freedom has statistically significant and positive impact on  income inequality.

Gelir Dağılımı Eşitsizliği ve Ekonomik Özgürlük İlişkisi:OECD Ülkeleri İçin Ampirik Bir Değerlendirme

Abstract

Ekonomik özgürlük kavramı, bireylerin herhangi bir kısıtlayıcı yada zorlayıcı müdahale olmaksızın ekonomik faaliyetlerde bulunabilmesi ve sahip oldukları kaynaklara serbest bir biçimde yön verebilme imkanının olmasını ifade etmektedir.  Ekonomik özgürlükler ekonomik sistemin yapısını belirler ve dolayısıyla büyüme ve gelir dağılımı için önemli bir açıklayıcı unsur oluşturabilir. Bu çalışmanın amacı ekonomik özgürlüklerin gelir dağılımı eşitsizliği üzerindeki etkisini OECD üyesi ülkeler için 2015 verilerini kullanarak yatay-kesit analiz yöntemi ile test etmektir. Çalışmadan elde edilen analitik sonuçlara göre ekonomik özgürlüklerin, gelir dağılımı eşitsizliği üzerinde istatistiksel olarak anlamlı ve pozitif yönlü bir etkiye sahip olduğu bulgusuna ulaşılmıştır.
