The Impact of Individual Innovativeness on Entrepreneurship Tendencies: Evidence from Future Sports Professionals

Abstract

This study examined the effect of individual innovativeness on entrepreneurship tendencies among sports sciences students and tested whether innovativeness predicts entrepreneurship tendencies. A quantitative relational survey design was used with 250 undergraduate students studying at the Faculty of Sports Sciences at Tekirdağ Namık Kemal University. Data were collected using a personal information form, an individual innovativeness scale, and an entrepreneurship scale. Descriptive statistics, t-tests, one-way ANOVA, correlation, and regression analyses were conducted. The findings showed that individual innovativeness levels did not differ across gender, age, department, entrepreneurship course attendance, or place of upbringing, while a difference emerged only in the risk-taking dimension by class level. Entrepreneurship tendencies were generally similar across demographic variables, with differences observed only in the tolerance for ambiguity dimension according to department and place of upbringing. Correlation analysis indicated a moderate positive relationship between individual innovativeness and entrepreneurship tendencies. Regression results further confirmed that individual innovativeness significantly predicts entrepreneurship tendencies. Overall, the findings suggest that enhancing individual innovativeness may be a key strategy for strengthening entrepreneurship tendencies among future sports professionals.
