Metaphors of Prospective Teachers, Teachers, and School Principals for the Practical Training Course
Abstract
This survey was done in order to find out the metaphors that prospective teachers (n=174), teachers (n=106)and school principals (n=54) have for the practical training course. The data that was obtained by asking each participant “the practical training course is like........”, “because......”, was analyzed with quantitative and qualitative analysis. According to the findings of survey 44 metaphors were found out. These metaphors were put in 8 conceptual categories in terms of their common points; “theatre”, “first step”, “no teacher in class”, “lab”, “mirror”, “formality”, “orphan” and “formativeness” . It was found out that these eight conceptual categories differ in terms of participants (teachers, prospective teachers, principals), gender and branch of teachers (classroom, English, social sciences, Turkish, art, music, computer)
