A s a means of social justice, labor-force participation keeping in mind women make up half of the population, is an important factor in the human-centered sustainable development scales of countries. Regardless of gender, class, race, language, religion, and ethnicity, women’s access to economic freedom, equal opportunities and establishment of necessary conditions are inevitable for democratic social order. In the historical transformation process, economic developments and capitalist industrialization that emerged with the bourgeoisie lead to a web of relations based on human rights and democracy. This brings to mind the questions of how women are affected from the relation between democratic processes and socio-economic developments, how these relations can be beneficial for women in terms of economic freedom and how economic conditions should be reformed on the basis of human rights? While modern capitalist economies that emerged with the influence of globalization include women in public spheres and enhance the production chain with reference to liberation of women, they ignore the dilemma between the public and private spheres confronted by women, who are the cornerstones of society, maintain the family institution, and play a primary biological, psychological and physical role for the continuity of humankind. In this essay, among the factors affecting the participation of women in the labor-force and socio-economic life are; social prejudices, reproduction of gender roles/stereotypes, tendency towards informal sector in which women are commodified and suspended from humanitarian values, wage gap, precarious work, the difficulties in accessing to resources, inflexible working hours, the situation of being stuck between business life and family life, the erosion of social, ethical and moral values will be examined in the context of civilizational values. Since female labor-force participation rate is crucial in elimination of social imbalances, gender discourses and policies that lie behind today’s chronic problems of women should be re-examined and solution proposals must be put forth from the perspective of justice
