Infestation of the Epiglottis by an Alive Leech: A Case Report

Abstract

A 64 year-old male patient was admitted to our clinic with the symptoms of hemoptysis, hoarseness, throat tripping, foreign body sensation and respiratory distress. At the laryngeal face of epiglottis by using the indirect laryngoscopy, we determined an alive, green-brown colored foreign body with its free parts extending to the rima glottis. Under general anesthesia without intubation, the foreign body was removed by the help of Magill forceps and diagnosed as a leech. In this report, we present a rare case of living leech at the larynx with a short review of the literature.

Epiglottun Canlı Sülük Enfestasyonu: Bir Olgu Sunumu

Abstract

Altmıșdört yașında, bir erkek hasta kliniğimize hemoptizi, ses kısıklığı, boğazda takılma, yabancı cisim hissi ve solunum sıkıntısı șikayeti ile bașvurdu. İndirekt laringoskopide, epiglot larengeal yüzde yeșil-kahverengi görünümde, canlı ve serbest kısmı rima glottise doğru uzanan yabancı cisme rastlandı. Genel anestezi altında, entübasyon yapılmadan yabancı cisim Magill forseps yardımıyla çıkarıldı. Bu yazıda nadir görülen larengeal sülük enfestasyonunu literatür eșliğinde tartıșarak sunuyoruz.
