Türkçe Politeia Çevirileri: Terminolojik ve Dilsel Problemlere Kısmi Bir Yaklaşım

Abstract

Platon’un Politeia’sının Türkçeye çevrilme süreci, 1940’lı yıllarda Georg Rohde yönetiminde gerçekleştirilen, metnin ilk dört kitabıyla başlamıştır. Bu çalışmada, Azra Erhat, Samim Sinanoğlu, Suat Sinanoğlu ve Türkan Tunga gibi çok kıymetli araştırmacılar yer almıştır. Ancak bu eserin günümüzde basımı yoktur ve eser maalesef tamamlanamadan kalmıştır. Bu çalışmadan sonraki tarihsel sürece baktığımızda, dilimizde, güvenilirliği konusunda uzlaşılan iki Politeia çevirisinin bulunduğu kabul edilmektedir. Bunlardan ilki, 1958 tarihinde S. Eyüboğlu ve M. Ali Cimcoz tarafından hazırlanmıştır. Ülkemizde en çok bilinen çevirinin bu eser olduğu söylenebilir. Diğer çevirisi ise 1973 yılında H. Demirhan tarafından yapılmıştır ve ilkine nazaran daha az tanınır durumdadır. Her iki eser de Türkçe bakımından son derece kıymetlidir. Bahsettiğimiz iki çeviriden sonra, 2000’li yıllarda, Politeia’nın başka çevirilerinin de yapıldığını görmekteyiz. Bu çalışmada, metnin “6.511a, 4-9” bağlamına odaklanma hattında, dilimizdeki bazı çevirilere dair kısmi bir analiz sunuluyor. İlk olarak, tarihsel bir araştırmaya dayalı olarak, çevirilere dair bazı saptamalarda bulunuluyor. İkinci olarak, formel bir analiz çerçevesinde, yaşanan kimi terminolojik problemlere değiniliyor.

Turkish Translations of Politeia: A Partial Approach to Terminological and Linguistic Problems

Abstract

The process of translating Plato’s Politeia into Turkish began with the first four books of the text, under the direction of Georg Rohde in the 1940s. Valuable researchers such as Azra Erhat, Samim Sinanoğlu, Suat Sinanoğlu and Türkan Tunga took part in this study. However, this work is not in print today and unfortunately it remained unfinished. When we look at the historical process after this study, it is accepted that there are two translations of Politeia in our language, whose reliability is agreed upon. The first of these was prepared by S. Eyüboğlu and M. Ali Cimcoz in 1958. It can be said that this work is the most well-known translation in our country. The other translation was made by H. Demirhan in 1973 and is less well-known than the first one. Both works are extremely valuable in terms of Turkish language. After these two translations, we see that other translations of Politeia were made in the 2000s. This article offers a partial analysis of some translations into our language, focusing on the context of the “6.511a, 4-9” passage of the text. First, some determinations regarding translations are made based on historical research. Secondly, within the framework of a formal analysis, some terminological problems are mentioned.
