Mesleki ve Teknik Anadolu Lisesi Özel Yetenekli Öğrencilerinin Kariyer Karar Verme Süreçleri

Abstract

Önemli ve karmaşık olan kariyer karar verme süreci, normal gelişim gösteren bireyler için zor olabilmektedir. Özel yetenekliliğe özgü farklılık ve ihtiyaçlar bu zorlu süreci biraz daha stresli hale getirebilmektedir. Bu çalışmanın amacı Mesleki ve Teknik Anadolu Lisesi’ne devam eden özel yetenekli öğrencilerinin kariyer kararlarını ve karar verme süreçlerini araştırmaktır. Bu amaçla nitel araştırmalardan keşfedici durum çalışması deseni tercih edilmiştir. Araştırmanın katılımcıları ölçüt örnekleme yöntemiyle seçilmiş, genel zihinsel yetenek alanında tanılı üç erkek öğrencidir. Yarı yapılandırılmış öğrenci görüşme formu ile veriler 2023-2024 eğitim öğretim yılı birinci döneminde toplanmış ve eş zamanlı olarak analiz edilmiştir. Verilerin analizinde tematik analiz kullanılmış; beş alt-tema ve iki tema oluşturulmuştur. Öz değerlendirmeler, mesleki değerler, psikososyal etkenler alt-temaları bireysel özellikler altında; eğitim-öğretim ve sosyal etkenler ise bağlamsal etmenler teması altında irdelenmiştir. Bu çalışmada, kariyer kararı verme sürecinde bireysel özelliklerin ve bağlamsal etmenlerin karşılıklı ve döngüsel ilişkisi ortaya konmuştur. Bilim ve Sanat Merkezlerinde uygulanan kariyer rehberlik programlarının örgün eğitim kurumlarına yaygınlaştırılması önerilmiştir.

The Career Decision-making Process of Gifted Students at Technical and Vocational High School

Abstract

The career decision-making process is critical and complex for typically developing individuals. This process can be even more stressful for gifted individuals who have unique needs and differences. This explorative case study aimed to investigate the career decisions and decision-making process of gifted students attending Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School. Three male students were selected using a criterion sampling method. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews conducted in the fall semester of the 2023-2024 academic year. Thematic analysis was employed to analyze the data; five sub-themes and two themes were produced. The sub-themes of self-appraisals, professional values, and psychosocial factors were categorized under the “individual characteristics” theme, while the sub-themes of education and social factors were categorized under the “contextual factors” theme. The current study revealed a reciprocal and cyclical relationship between individual characteristics and contextual factors in the career decision-making process. This study recommended that career programs implemented in Science and Art Centers (BILSEM) should be expanded to regular schools.
