Coping Strategies School Counselors Use in Crisis Intervention: Izmir City Sample
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to investigate the coping strategies used by the school counselors
in crisis situations. The sample of the study consisted of a total of 320 school counselors who
are working in the elementary schools and high schools, located in the city of Izmir. They
results showed that, school counselors’ coping strategies differed significantly according
to “experience they had in working as counselors”, “level of education”, “participation in
psychosocial school project”, and “participation in programs for prevention of violence at
schools”, “the type of schools (public or private) they worked in” and “the type of programs
the school counselors graduated from”.
