AGEING EFFECTS ON LABOUR MARKETS: CASE OF G8 COUNTRIES
Abstract
Ageing and aged population, which is a indicator of physical status, are related to developments in health industry. Increase in avarage life span on the one hand has been seen as result of welfare, on the other hand as issue which decreases the labour force. Decrease in labour force and increase in avarage life span has been attached excessive importance by both developed and developing countries.
This study aims to analyze the impact of changing demographies’ impact on countires labour markets. In this context, the G8 countries; Germany, France, United Kingdom, USA, Canada, Italy, Japan, Russia compared with the general view on the world. This study analyzed the demographic changes with ILO, OECD and United Nations’ projections and datas. While Russia and the US are the closest G8 countries to the world average, the labor force has shrunk in all countries. Countries fight against ageing with programs such lifelong learning and active ageing and controlled migration policies.
