THE INFLUENCE OF ENTREPRENEURSHIP PERSONALITY ON ENTREPRENEURIAL INTENTION
Abstract
Purpose –Understanding entrepreneurship and the personality traits of entrepreneurs became a critical issue because of the economic problems that countries face today. Personality traits have a great role in entrepreneurial intentions as it can be seen in the related literature. The attitudes toward entrepreneurship are available to discuss by personality traits, this paper intends to shed light on which traits of personality have effects on entrepreneurial intentions.
Design/methodology/approach –The convenience sampling method was chosen to apply in the research. The data were collected by a structured questionnaire. Structural equation modelling is used to test the influence of entrepreneurship personality traits on entrepreneurial intention of university students.
Findings –Modelling results indicate that entrepreneurship personality has an influence on the university students’ entrepreneurial intention. The intention of entrepreneurship is considered to be the most effective factor on the countries’ economic development. Research findings show that certain personality traits are related with entrepreneurial intention significantly.
Research limitations/implications–The research results provide implications for the decision makers who work for higher education establishments at macro and micro levels, in terms of efficient allocation of resources and decision making.
Originality/value–This paper ensures empirical insights about which personality characteristics affect intentions of entrepreneurship. This research is one of the few studies which examined the influence of entrepreneurship personality on entrepreneurship intentions of students in a highly industrialized province, Bursa.
