Ethical Principles and Publication Policy

All submissions that comply with the journal’s submission guidelines and have been approved are evaluated by two reviewers assigned through a double-blind peer-review process. In case of disagreement between the two reviewers, an additional reviewer may be appointed, or the opinion of the associate editor may be sought. The associate editor evaluates the reviewers’ comments and forwards their decision to the editor-in-chief. After the editor-in-chief makes the final decision, the result is communicated to the author via email. Editorial articles written upon invitation are exempt from this process; however, the final decision for all submissions to the journal rests with the editor-in-chief.
While every effort is made to be as responsive as possible during the review and publication process, no specific timeline is guaranteed. All publication rights for accepted articles belong to the authors and KMU Medical Journal. Authors are required to sign and upload a copyright transfer agreement to the system during submission. The journal publishes two issues annually, in June and January. The journal’s publication languages are English and Turkish. Submissions must not have been previously published elsewhere or submitted to another journal for review.
Submissions must not have been previously published in any venue/journal or submitted to another journal for publication [except for oral presentations or posters presented at scientific congresses (whether as abstracts or full texts), provided this is declared]. The ethical and legal responsibility for all submissions sent for review and accepted for publication lies with the authors. The opinions and comments expressed in accepted articles are entirely those of the authors and do not represent the views of the editors or the editorial board. The editors and editorial board bear no responsibility or liability for the comments made in published articles. Whether submissions that do not comply with the journal’s writing guidelines are considered for review is at the discretion of the Editor and Editorial Board.
All studies require ethics committee approval, and this approval must be documented. The contribution level of authors participating in the study must be specified at the end of the article, and gift authorship is not permitted. Any stage of the study, including data collection, experimental phase, writing, and language editing, must be declared free of financial conflicts of interest. If applicable, commercial sponsorship must be disclosed. KMU Medical Journal uses plagiarism detection software (iThenticate). Articles exceeding the academic citation limit or not prepared following publication guidelines will not be considered for review. The journal may request a plagiarism report from the author or conduct its scan.
As part of its publication policy, KMU Medical Journal adheres to the guidelines of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE), World Association of Medical Editors (WAME), Council of Science Editors (CSE), European Association of Science Editors (EASE), Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), and National Information Standards Organization (NISO). The journal complies with the Principles of Transparency and Best Practice in Scholarly Publishing (doaj.org/bestpractice). The Editorial Board will act in accordance with COPE guidelines in response to allegations or suspicions of plagiarism, citation manipulation, or data falsification in submissions. Complaints regarding the journal should be directed to the editor-in-chief or the editorial board. Complaints will be reviewed by the editorial board in line with COPE guidelines. In cases of appeals or complaints, the final decision on the reviewed submission will be made by the editor-in-chief, while the associate editor handling the submission may oversee revisions and manage the republication process.
