This article aims to make an assessment about where the name of “Bağlama” comes
from in the light of newly emerging findings and information. First of all, history of
string musical instruments was examined in the central Asia, Anatolia and nearby
geography. Secondly, the information is given about the composition of Alevi-
Bektashy literature and music, in which folk music tradition is highly living. Thirdly,
the formation “Deste Bağlama” tradition and the process of transtion from lutekopuz
to “Bağlama” have been evaluated. As a result, “Deste Bağlama” which gives
its name to the both musical instrument and the accord(Akort), is the most
important part of Alevi-Bektashy’s “ayin-i cems”, literature and music. In the course
of time, the order has been started to be called as “Bağlama Düzeni” and the name
of the musical instrument becomes “Bağlama”.
