Abstract
The aim of this case study is to reveal the positive and negative effects of distance education during the Covid-19 pandemic on teaching listening and speaking skills. The participants were nine English teachers working in the primary, secondary and high schools at the Ministry of National Education. Research data were collected via semi-structured interviews using online communication tools. As a result of the content analysis, it was revealed that the distance education carried out during the Covid-19 pandemic positively affected the listening skill depending on the effective use of technology. On the other hand, it was seen that distance education had positive effects on speaking skills depending on effective use of technology and suitable environments. On the other hand, it was also found that distance education had negative effects on listening skills arising from the ineffective use of technology, family and the decisions made by the Ministry of National Education. Similarly, it was found that the negative effects of distance education on teaching speaking skills were caused by the students, the environment, the Ministry of National Education, the ineffective use of technology, and the family.
