Abstract

Haiku is a type of Japanese poetry and is unique in terms of form and content. From the 19th century onwards, this genre has appeared in international literature as well. In recent years, examples of haiku translations have appeared in Kurdish literature, although they are few in number. American haiku differs in form and content from the Japanese style of haiku. In this relationship, the peculiarities and the style of the Kurdish translations of haiku and their relationship to the original haiku have become a subject of research. In this article, based on Christiane Nord's model, called translation-oriented text analysis, we discuss the Kurdish translations of Jack Kerouac's seven haikus. We focus on the translator's preferences and priorities in order to interpret the translator's style of translation. Within the framework of Nord's model, we consider intratextual and extratextual factors to evaluate the translations and the literary equivalence of the source and target texts. This study aims to clarify the relationship between the original haikus and the translated haikus. This is achieved by demonstrating the resemblance between the source haikus and the target haikus in terms of style and type. Additionally, the study critiques the translations.

Abstract

Cureya haîkûyê nerîteke helbestê ya edebiyata Japonî ye û ji hêla teşe û naverokê ve xwedî taybetiyên xwemalî ye. Nimûneyên vê cureya helbestê ji sedsala 19an û pê de li nav edebiyatên cîhanê jî diyar bû. Nimûneyên wergerê yên haîkûyan, ji hêla hejmarê ve kêm be jî, li wan salên dawî di edebiyata Kurdî de jî xuya dibin. Haîkûyên Amerîkî ji hêla teşe û naverokê ve ji nerîta haîkûya Japonî cuda dibin. Di vê pêwendiyê de taybetî û şêwaza wergerên Kurdî yên haîkûyan û têkiliya wan a bi haîkûyên resen, dibe mijareke lêkolînê.

Year 2024, Issue: 10, 7 - 24, 30.12.2024
