Inpatient Satisfaction for Kırıkkale University Hospital: A Scale Development Study

Abstract

Objective: The purpose of this study is to investigate the Likert-type patient satisfaction scale for satisfaction of inpatients in the Hospital of the University of Kirikkale Medical Faculty, and to determine the reliability and validity of this scale.

Material and Methods: The scale with 22 items was prepared considering related literature and it was administered to 397 subjects between September 2015- July 2016.

Results: A patient satisfaction scale consisting of four factors was developed after factor analyzes and reliability study. The factors of the scale is determined as “doctor factor with 6 items”, “other staff factor with 5 items”, “physical facilities factor with 8 items” and “food services factor with 3 items”. For these four factors identified, we investigated whether the differences in satisfaction levels of inpatients vary between departments and determined in which department a difference emerged. In addition, according to the mentioned factors, the highest level of satisfaction was determined in the branches of thoracic surgery, brain and neurosurgery, thoracic surgery and ophthalmology respectively.

Conclusion: Patient satisfaction levels were "good" for all factors called as doctors, other staff, physical facilities and catering services.
