Abstract
Strategic-Udy Process has been developed during the last
few years, and has already successfully passed the pilot-plant
stage. Jt is essentially a pigiron or semi-steel producing process,
although it can also be used to produce finisched steel.
The sys em consists of a rotating kiln and a special openarc
type electric furnace. It can smelt practically any type of iron
Ore, including- cold or hot slags, and as heating or reducing
agent, it can use coke, coke breeze, low volatile bituminans
coal or lignites. There is no pre-sintering, agglomerating or
pelletiznig of the fine ore, and the S, P,.or Ti conten of the
charke is not important. The plant size can be 300 to 500 tons
per day and still compete in production cost with that of blast
furnace. By installing several parallel units, prastically any
plant capacity can be obtained. The cos t of electricity is an
important factor in the cost of production, and it should:

around 5 to 8 mills (5 to 8 kuruş). Strategic-Udy Process is
especially suited for the countries where the trasportation cost
is high, the iron ore reserves contain high S, P, Ti,Ab03 or
SİO2, or where the markets for iron or steel are scattered ail
around the country, and finally, where cheap electricity is
available. The initial capital incestment for the same anmial
ton of production is half of that of blast furnace and coke
owen system.

Bir kaç senedir pilot-plant safhasında denemeleri yapılmakta
bulunan stratejik Udy usulü artık sına? İşletme safhasına
girmiş bulunmaktadır. Bu usul esas itibariyle pik demiri
veya yarı çelik istihsalinde kullanılabİİirse de/
tesise munzam
bir elektrik fırını ilâve suretiyle doğrudan doğruya çelik İstihsali
de mümkündür. Sistemin en mühim uzuvları bir döner
fırınla, açık-ark tipi özel bir elektrik fırınıdır. Eski cüruflar
da dâhil olmak üzere, her çeşit demir cevherlerini bu usulle
izabe etmek mümkündür. Yakıt ve redükleyici madde olarak
kok, kok tozu, maden kömürü veya linyit kullanılabilir. Elektrik
fırınında husule, gelen redükİeyicî gazlardan döner fırında
İstifade edilir. Cevherin döner fırına şarjından evvel sinker,
aglomera veya briket haline getirilmesine ihtiyaç bulunmadığı
gibi, şarjdaki S, P, Ti, ve diğer yabancı maddeler üzerinde de
tahdit yoktur. Fabrika kapasitesinin günde 300 - 500 ton çelik
istihsal edebilecek şekilde kurulabilmesine rağmen, istihsal
maliyeti bakımından yüksek fırınla rekabet edebilmesi mümkündür.
Paralel olarak bir kaç ünite kurmak suretiyle arzu
edilen senelik kapasite temin edilebilir. İstihsal maliyetinde
en mühim faktörlerden birisi elektrik fiyatıdır. Elektriğin
KWS'inm 5 İlâ 8 kuruş civarında olmast gerekir. Stratejîk-Udy
usulü bilhassa nakliyenin pahalı bulunduğu, mevcut demir cevheri
rezervlerinin yüksek S, P, Tİ,Ab03 ve SİO2 ihtiva ettiği,
ham veya mamul çelik pazarlarının memleketin muhtelif yerlerine
dağılmış vaziyette olduğu ve nihayet ucuz elektriğin temin
edilebildiği memleketler için elverişlidir. İlk tesis masraflarının
yüksek fırın sistemine nazaran %50 civarında ucuz
bulunması bilhassa calibi dikkattir.
