The Investigation of High School Students Learning Styles In Terms Of Certain Variables

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between high schools students' learning styles and some variables such as gender, playing computer games and type of high school. The method of this study was correlational research. In this context, 2295 students in 3 different provinces and 4 different type of high school participated in this study. Purposive sampling method was used to determine of participation.  892 (38.9%) of the participants were female and 1,402 (61.1%) were male. The Kolb Learning style inventory which was developed by Kolb in 1984 and translated in to Turkish by Aşkar and Akkoyunlu (1993) was administered in this study. Chi-squared test was used to analyze obtained data. According to the results, more than half of surveyed high school students learning style were diverger. Besides, there are statistically significant differences between not only gender and learning styles but also type of school and learning styles. However, the relationship between students' learning style and their most played computer game type were not significant.

LİSE ÖĞRENCİLERİNİN ÖĞRENME STİLLERİNİN BAZI DEĞİŞKENLERE GÖRE İNCELENMESİ

Öz

Bu çalışmanın amacı, lise öğrencilerinin öğrenme stilleri ile cinsiyet, bilgisayar oyunu oynama durumu ve öğrenim görülen lise türü değişkenleri arasındaki ilişkiyi belirlemektir. İlişkisel tarama modeline göre düzenlenen bu çalışmaya 3 ilden 4 farklı lise türünden 2295 öğrenci katılmıştır. Örneklemin seçiminde amaçlı örnekleme yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Çalışmaya katılan öğrencilerin 892'si (%38.9) kız ve 1402'si (%61.1) erkektir. Araştırmada Kolb (1984) tarafından geliştirilen ve Aşkar ve Akkoyunlu (1993) tarafından Türkçeye çevrilip geçerlik ve güvenirlik çalışması yapılan Kolb Öğrenme Stili Envanteri kullanılmıştır. Elde edilen verilerin analizinde ki-kare testi kullanılmıştır. Araştırma sonuçlarına göre,  araştırmaya katılan lise öğrencilerinin yarıdan fazlasının (%55,2) öğrenme stili değiştirendir. Öğrencilerin cinsiyetleri ve öğrenim gördükleri okul türü ile öğrenme stilleri arasındaki ilişki anlamlı çıkmıştır. Bununla birlikle, öğrencilerin en çok oynadıkları bilgisayar oyun türü ile öğrenme stilleri arasında anlamlı düzeyde bir ilişki olmadığı görülmüştür.
