When its content, functions and activities are evaluated, supervision is an annoying process which creates anxiety and resistance. Resistance is a common and natural experience and necessary for creating a therapeutic supervision climate. Some desired changes in the behaviors of supervisee are expected after supervision process. These behavioral changes are more likely to lead to resistance. Regardless of purpose, resistance in supervision is experienced both by supervisor and supervisee and is encountered irrespective of the supervisor's skill level. The supervisor who thinks that he or she can proceed through the process of supervision without encountering resistance is an unrealistic expectation. Knowing about the dynamics behind supervisee resistance, an effective supervisor may redirect the resistance to create a positive supervision climate. This study, within the framework of supervisee resistance and based on literature review, aims to explore causes of supervisee resistance, sources and types of resistance and how to cope with and minimize supervisee resistance using some strategies including positive reframing, increasing the supervisee's self-esteem, empowering the supervisee, modeling effective methods of managing thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, using of empathy, patience and flexibility, providing supervisees with professional support, and giving feedback in a sensitive manner.
