When we study the the manuscript of Tevarih-i Al-i Selçuk which is registered in the catalogııe qfthe Library of Revan, Topkapı Pa/ace. ıvith the nıımber 1391, we see that the acı of giving somethiııg as a present which is a common practice in, lı•as explained in detail ali throııgh the mamıscript. lf we consider the societydescribed in this manuscript as a pyramid, we can see that among these groups- /rom the top to the bottom, ıhat is (jrom the Sultan to tlıe ordina/")'' people),in this pyramid there are many differences with respect to the reasons for giving presents. People belonging ıo these wırious groups gave sonıething as a gifi to each ot her dııe to a variety of reasons such as visiting, keeping away from trouble or obtaining commitment of people/attaching people to hinıself"themselves (.mch as the case qlthe the Sultan or other governors of the Enıpire). in addition to that, there are plenty of dijferences regardingfornıs of presenting a gift and in the words ıısed while describing the different instances of gifi-giving bythe historian Yazıcızade Ali.
