Effect of Traffic Density on Zinc Concentrations in Different Organs of Some Plants

Abstract

Air pollution, which has increased rapidly in the last century due to anthropogenicfactors, has become a global problem that causes millions of deaths worldwide every year. Amongthe components of air pollution, heavy metals are the most dangerous and harmful. Plants are themost effective tools that can be used to monitor the change of heavy metal pollution in the air andreduce pollution. However, in order to both monitor the change of heavy metal pollution in the airand reduce the pollution, it is necessary to identify the plants that can accumulate heavy metals themost. In this study, leaf, bark and wood samples were collected from the individuals of Aesculus hippocastanum, Tilia tomentosa, Ligustrum vulgare and Catalpa bignonioides species, which grow inthe city center of Samsun and are frequently used in landscaping studies, in areas with high, low andalmost no traffic, and the changes in Zn concentrations were determined by using ICP-OES.As aresult of the study, it was determined that the change in Zn concentration was statisticallysignificant (p<0.05) in all organs at all traffic intensities and at all traffic intensities on an organ basis.As a result of the study, the highest values were determined as A. hippocastanum > L. vulgare > T. tomentosa > C. bignonioides on species basis and leaf > bark > wood on organ basis. There wasnolinear relationship between traffic density and Zn concentration in organs.

Bazı Bitkilerin Farklı Organlarındaki Çinko Konsantrasyonlarına Trafik Yoğunluğunun Etkisi

Abstract

Son yüzyılda antropogenik faktörlere bağlı olarak hızla artan hava kirliliği, dünya genelinde heryıl milyonlarca insanın ölümüne sebep olan küresel bir sorun haline gelmiştir. Hava kirliliği bileşenleriarasında en tehlikeli ve zararlı olanları ağır metallerdir. Havadaki ağır metal kirliliğinin değişimininizlenmesi ve kirliliğin azaltılmasında kullanılabilecek en etkin araçlar ise bitkilerdir. Ancak, havadakiağır metal kirliliğinin değişiminin izlenmesinde ve azaltılmasında kullanılabilecek bitkilerin ayrı ayrıbelirlenmesi gerekmektedir. Çalışma kapsamında Samsun il merkezinde yetişen ve peyzajuygulamalarında sıklıkla kullanılan türlerden Aesculus hippocastanum, Tilia tomentosa, Ligustrum vulgare ve Catalpa bignonioides türlerinden, yoğun trafik, az yoğun trafik ve trafiğin olmadığıalanlarda yetişen bireylerinin yaprak, kabuk ve odun örneklerinde Zn konsantrasyon değişimleriICP-OES kullanılarak belirlenmiştir. Çalışma sonucunda bütün organlarda trafik yoğunluğu ve bütüntrafikyoğunluklarında organ bazında Zn konsantrasyon değişiminin istatistiksel olarak anlamlı(p<0,05) düzeyde olduğu belirlenmiştir. Çalışma sonucunda en yüksek değerler tür bazındaA. hippocastanum > L. vulgare > T. tomentosa > C. bignonioides şeklinde, organ bazında ise yaprak>kabuk > odunşeklinde sıralandığı belirlenmiştir. Trafik yoğunluğu ile organlardaki Znkonsantrasyonu arasında isedoğrusal bir ilişki olmadığı belirlenmiştir.
