Abstract
On of the gateways of Turkey to Europe Edirne City has seen a significant bridge between Anatolia and the Balkans. Edirne City carries traces of various civilizations. The city, which experienced great spatial changes after being the capital of the Ottoman State, displayed a different development phase with the declaration of the Republic. In Edirne City, which has a long history, the population, which was 34.528 in the first years of the Republic, reached 172.802 as of 2019. With the development works that started in 1969, the rapidly developing industry branches continued until 1976. Since this date, the development process of Edirne City has slowed down with the exclusion of priority provinces in development and the development of the industrial sector across to the surrounding settlements. Industrial activities lagging behind agriculture have developed mainly processed products. Apart from the food industry, operating branches such as textile, mining, metal, soil, brick/tile industry are also available in the service area. These activities led to a trend towards increasing the population in the city. With the increasing population, land-use has changed in the city. Fertile lands have been adversely affected by allowing various zoning activities. Necessary measures should be taken to determine the existing fertile soil in the field and to use it in accordance with the potential of the natural environment.
