Dr. Veli Özdemir completed his Ph.D. in 2023 at the Institute of European Studies at Marmara University. Özdemir, who continues his academic work as a part-time assistant professor in the Department of International Relations at Işık University, also serves as editor of the Marmara Journal of European Studies (MJES). He specializes in qualitative and mixed-methods research and holds advanced certifications in data analysis software, including MAXQDA and NVivo. The project he leads, titled “Radical Uncertainty: Turkish Political Parties, the EU, and Global Crises” (TRUCE - 101277864), was awarded the MSCA 2025 Seal of Excellence from the European Commission. His primary research areas include the far right, securitization, populism, political narratives, the far right’s relations with Russia, Turkey-EU relations, and EU security.
Dr. Fatmanur Kaçar Aşcı is an Assistant Professor of Political Science and International Relations at Kahramanmaraş Sütçü İmam University, where she also serves as Head of the Department of Political Science and International Relations. She received her BA (2007), MA (2012), and PhD (2021) from Marmara University, completing her graduate studies at the Institute of European Studies, and conducted doctoral fieldwork in Germany in 2018.
Her research focuses on European politics, right-wing populism, and political communication, with particular emphasis on the multimodal and discursive evolution of populist styles in Europe, as well as the political dimensions of Türkiye–EU relations. She employs qualitative and mixed-methods approaches, integrating critical discourse analysis, multimodal analysis, and CAQDAS-based methodologies. Her work has been published in Palgrave Macmillan, Lexington Books, and Springer, as well as in peer-reviewed international journals. She is an active member of two COST Action Working Groups, contributing to collaborative and interdisciplinary research on European politics.

Prof. Dr. Tanja A. Börzel is professor of political science and holds the Chair for European Integration at the Otto-Suhr-Institute for Political Science, Freie Universität Berlin.
Prof. Dr. Börzel is director of the Cluster of Excellence “Contestations of the Liberal Script”. She is also the head of the Berlin Center for European Studies. Her most recent publications include “Effective Governance Under Anarchy. Institutions, Legitimacy, and Social Trust in Areas of Limited Statehood,” with Thomas Risse (Cambridge University Press 2021), “Why Noncompliance. The Politics of Law in the European Union” (Cornell University Press 2021), “The Liberal Script at the Beginning of the 21st Century. Thomas Diez is Professor of Political Science and International Relations at the University of Tübingen and a former President of the European International Studies Association (EISA) 2015-7. From 1997 to 2000, he was Research Fellow at the Copenhagen Peace Research Institute and subsequently taught at the University of Birmingham. He is the author of more than fifty articles in international peer-reviewed journals. His books include Transnational Infrastructures and the Transformation of Global Orders (co-editor, Springer, 2025), The Routledge Handbook on Critical European Studies (co-editor Routledge 2021), The EU and Global Climate Justice (co-author Routledge 2021), The EU, Promoting Regional Integration, and Conflict Resolution (co-editor, Palgrave 2017), and The Securitisation of Climate Change (co-author, Routledge, 2016). In September 2009, he received the Anna Lindh Award for his contribution to the field of European Foreign and Security Policy Studies.
Helena Farrand Carrapico is Professor in International Relations and European Politics at the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Northumbria University, as well as Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences and Secretary of the British international Studies Association. Her research interests examine how the European Union is renegotiating power, security, and sovereignty in a fractured geopolitical landscape. Within this area, she is particularly interested in EU cybersecurity and EU cyber crime, in addition to the wider field of European internal security governance. The question she keeps going back to is how do security and regulation become instruments through which EU political communities define who they are and who they fear. Her work is featured in the Journal of Common Market Studies, the Journal of European Public policy, International Affairs, the Journal of European Integration, the Journal of International Relations and Development, Geopolitics, and European Security.
Nora Fisher Onar is Associate Professor and Chair of Global Studies at the University of San Francisco. Her research interests include international relations theory, diplomacy, comparative politics / area studies (Turkey/Middle East; Europe; Eurasia), political ideologies, gender, and history/memory. She is also increasingly interested in the impact of technological change on international affairs. She received her doctorate from the University of Oxford and holds master’s and undergraduate degrees from Johns Hopkins (SAIS) and Georgetown universities, respectively. She speaks five languages, has traveled to over 80 countries, and lived in eight.
Fisher-Onar is the author of Contesting Pluralism(s): Islam, Liberalism and Nationalism in Turkey, with Cambridge University Press, and lead editor of the volume, Istanbul: Living With Difference in a Global City (co-edited with Susan C. Pearce and E. Fuat Keyman). She is also the editor of special issues of major scholarly journals like: the Journal of Common Market Studies; International Affairs, and Global Studies Quarterly, among others.
Fisher-Onar speaks often at policy fora like Brookings, Carnegie, and the German Marshall Fund (GMF) where she has served as a Ronald Asmus Fellow, Transatlantic Academy Fellow, and Non-Residential Fellow. She further contributes commentary to platforms like the Washington Post, Foreign Affairs, and OpenDemocracy.
Cigdem Nas is the Secretary-General of the Economic Development Foundation (IKV), an NGO specialized on Turkey-EU relations. She is also an associate professor of international relations and a member of staff at the Department of Political Science and International Relations of the Yildiz Technical University in Istanbul. She graduated from the Political Sicence Department of Bosphorous University in 1988, completed her Masters on European Social Policy at the London School of Economics and Political Science and her Doctorate athe Marmara University EU Institute on the minority rights regime in Europe in 2000. She worked as a researcher at the Istanbul Chamber of Industry between 1992-94, then joined the EU Institute of the Marmara University as a research assistant. She became an associate professor in 2007 and transferred to the Yildiz Technical University. She is the author or several books and articles on the EU and Turkey-EU relations including Turkey and the EU: Processes of Europeanization ve Turkey and EU Integration: Achievements and Obstacles published by Routledge. She is a member of the Turkish University Studies Association on EU Studies (TUNAECS), Academic Network of European Studies in Turkey (A-NEST), the Europe Team of the Delegation of the EU in Ankara, Jean Monnet Scholars Association, Global Relations Forum, and International Political Science Association (IPSA).

Dr Dimitris Bouris (he/him) is an Associate Professor at the Department of Political Science at the University of Amsterdam and a Jean Monnet Chair “The EU as a Global Actor” (ATHENA). He is an Associate Editor of the academic journal European Security and a Visiting Professor at the College of Europe (Natolin). He is also the leader and coordinator of the EU-Middle East Jean Monnet Network EUMENIA. Dr Bouris is a co-leader of the Europe in the World theme of the Amsterdam Centre for European Studies (ACES), an Academic Board member of the Amsterdam Centre for Middle Eastern Studies (ACMES), an Academic Council Member of the European Neighbourhood Council and a non-resident fellow at the Hellenic Foundation for European and Foreign Policy ELIAMEP.
Dr Bouris holds a BA in Political Science (University of Crete), a MA in International Politics/International Relations (University of Manchester) and a PhD in Politics and International Studies (University of Warwick). His research focus lies at the intersection of International Relations (IR theory, peacebuilding, state-building, security sector reform, conflict resolution), EU Studies (EU External Relations, EU Common Security and Defence Policy) and Middle East and North Africa Studies (with a particular focus on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and Libya).
Dr Bouris is the author of “The European Union and Occupied Palestinian Territories: State-building without a State” (Routledge, 2014). Dimitris is also the co-editor (with Tobias Schumacher) of the “Revised European Neighbourhood Policy: Continuity and Change in EU Foreign Policy” (Palgrave Macmillan, 2017) and the co-editor (with Daniela Huber and Michelle Pace) of the “Routledge Handbook of EU-Middle East Relations” (Routledge, 2022). He has also edited special issues and published a number of scholarly articles in leading peer-reviewed academic journals such as the Journal of Common Market Studies (JCMS), Journal of International Relations and Development, Global Studies Quarterly, European Security, the Hague Journal on the rule of law, Mediterranean Politics, Global Affairs, International Spectator, the British Journal of Politics and International Relations, International Political Sociology and Geopolitics.
Ayhan Kaya is Professor of Politics and Jean Monnet Chair of European Politics of Interculturalism at the Department of International Relations, Istanbul Bilgi University; Director of the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence; and a member of the Science Academy, Turkey. He is currently European Research Council Advanced Grant holder (ERC AdG, 2019-2024). He received his PhD and MA degrees at the University of Warwick, England. Kaya was previously a Jean Monnet Fellow at the European University Institute, Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies, Florence, Italy, and adjunct lecturer at the New York University, Florence in 2016-2017. He previously worked and taught at the European University Viadrina as Aziz Nesin Chair in 2013, and at Malmö University, Sweden as the Willy Brandt Chair in 2011. He is specialised on European identities, Euro-Turks in Germany, France, Belgium and the Netherlands, Circassian diaspora in Turkey, the construction and articulation of modern transnational identities, refugee studies in Turkey, conventional and nonconventional forms of political participation in Turkey, and the rise of populist movements in the EU. His recent manuscripts are Syrian Refugees in Turkey: Between Reception and Integration (Switzerland: Springer IMISCOE, 2023, co-authored with Z. Şahin-Mencütek, E. Gökalp-Aras, and S. B. Rottmann), and Populism and Heritage in Europe. Lost in Diversity and Unity (London: Routledge, 2019). His recent edited volumes are Nativist and Islamist Radicalism: Anger and Anxiety (London: Routledge, 2023, with Aysenur Benevento and Metin Koca); Memory in European Populism (London: Routledge, 2019, with Chiara de Cesari). Some of his books are Turkish Origin Migrants and their Descendants: Hyphenated Identities in Transnational Space (Palgrave, 2018), Europeanization and Tolerance in Turkey (London: Palgrave, 2013); Islam, Migration and Integration: The Age of Securitization (London: Palgrave, 2012); Contemporary Migrations in Turkey: Integration or Return (Istanbul Bilgi University Press, 2015, in Turkish, co-edited with Murat Erdoğan), Belgian-Turks, Brussels: King Baudouin Foundation, 2008, co-written with Ferhat Kentel), Euro-Turks: A Bridge or a Breach between Turkey and the EU (Brussels: CEPS Publications, 2005, co-written with Ferhat Kentel, Turkish version by Bilgi University); wrote another book titled Sicher in Kreuzberg: Constructing Diasporas, published in two languages, English (Bielefeld: Transkript verlag, 2001) and Turkish (Istanbul: Büke Yayınları, 2000). He also translated Ethnic Groups and Boundaries by Fredrik Barth and Citizenship and Social Classes by T. H. Marshall and Tom Bottomore to Turkish language. He also edited several books on migration, integration, citizenship, and diasporas. Kaya’s publications have been translated to several languages such as French, German, Japanese, Italian, Arabic and Dutch. Kaya was actively involved in two FP7 and three Horizon 2020 projects, and now he is involved in two different Horizon 2020 research projects on migration. Kaya received Turkish Social Science Association Prize in 2003; Turkish Academy of Sciences (TÜBA-GEBİP) Prize in 2005; Sedat Simavi Research Prize in 2005; Euroactiv-Turkey European Prize in 2008, the Prize for the best Text Book given by TÜBA; and also the Prize for excellence in teaching at the Department of International Relations, Istanbul Bilgi University in 2013 and 2017.
Zuhal Mert Uzuner is a professor at the Department of Political Science and International Relations at Marmara University. She teaches Introduction to International Relations and Seminar on Southeast Europe, International Organizations, EU-Turkey Relations, and Greek-Turkish Relations. Uzuner studies foreign policy analysis, Greek foreign policy, Turkish foreign policy, Balkan and Mediterranean politics, and Greek-Turkish relations. She has a B.A., M.A., and PhD degrees from Marmara University International Relations and an M.A. from Southeast European Studies at Democritus University of Thrace, Law School, Greece. She knows English and Greek and has written several articles, books, and papers in Turkish and English. She is the author of Anapofeuktoi Sintrofoi o Ellino Italikos Polemos ston Tourkiko Tipo Oktovrios Dekemvrios 1940 (published by Epikentro in 2016) and editor of Role of Image in Greek Turkish Relations (published in 2018 by Peter Lang). Zuhal Mert Uzuner, who has been the Director of MURCIR (Marmara University International Relations Research Center) since 2023, also participates in Track II diplomacy initiatives and has been a member of the Eastern Mediterranean Initiative since 2021 and the Turkish Greek Forum since 2022.
Prof. Dr. İlke Göçmen is the Head of the Department of EU Law at Ankara University Law Faculty. Previously, he served as the Director of the EU Research Centre and as the Editor of the Ankara Review of European Studies.
He has been a visiting post-doctoral researcher at Leiden University’s Europa Institute and a visiting professor at Saarland University’s Europa-Institut.
He has extensive experience in research and publication in EU law, encompassing both its institutional and substantive aspects, as well as the legal dimension of EU-Türkiye relations.
He holds a Jean Monnet Chair (2019-2022) with his project titled Legal Issues in Turkey–European Union Relations.
His book Foundations of European Union Law was awarded the Jury Special Prize under the TÜBA–TESEP Scientific Authorship Program in 2025 by the Turkish Academy of Sciences (TÜBA).
Doç. Dr. N. Nevra Esentürk, yüksek lisans ve doktora eğitimini Marmara Üniversitesi AB Siyaseti ve Uluslararası İlişkiler anabilim dalında tamamlamıştır. Doktora eğitimi sırasında AB Komisyonu’nun Eğitim ve Kültür Genel Müdürlüğünde görev yapmıştır. Yalova Üniversitesi, Uluslararası İlişkiler Bölümünde öğretim üyesi olarak görev yapmaktadır. 2017 yılından beri Bölüm Erasmus koordinatörlüğünü yürütmektedir. 2012-2013 yılında Dışişleri Bakanlığı Diplomasi Akademisinde akademik koordinatörlük ve danışmanlık yapmış, diplomatların ulusal ve uluslararası eğitim programlarında ders vermiştir. 2017-2018 yılında TÜBİTAK 3001 kapsamında “Türk Dış Politikası ve Türkiye Büyük Millet Meclisi (TBMM)’nin Rolü: Suriye Tezkeresi ve Bütçe Görüşmeleri Örnek Vakaları” projesini yürütmüştür. Avrupa Çalışmaları alanında ulusal ve uluslararası çeşitli yayınları vardır.
