Abstract
In this research, social studies textbooks written in the line of 1998 and 2004 curricula
were compared and evaluated from the point of view of the presentation of social issues
and values. To this end, a range of social studies textbooks were selected for examination.
Some of these were designed based on 1998 curriculum whilst the other grounded upon
2004 curriculum. The study involved qualitative research methods which could be defined
as documentary analysis/content analysis. The textbooks reflecting two different learning
approaches were analysed regarding rhetoric used to present the social issues and values.
The ways in which social issues and values presented were exemplified via excerpts taken
from the two groups of textbooks. The findings indicated that textbooks written according
to1998 curriculum is quite different from those written according to 2004 curriculum
concerning in this matter.
