Psychological Symptoms and General Health Patterns of Adolescents
Abstract
In the present study, 544 adolescents, 251 of whom are girls and 293 of whom are boys, who attend the high school of sciences and public high schools, were evaluated in terms of psychological symptoms and general health patterns. It was also investigated whether psychological symptoms and general health patterns vary according to variations of sex, sociometric status and school type. The data from the research were obtained through the administration of the scales Brief Symptom Inventory and Sociometry. In order to determine the prevalence of psychological symptoms among adolescents, points that the students got from the subscales of Brief Symptom Inventory were considered. The research concluded that psychological symptoms occur more commonly among adolescent girls. It was found out that students of high school of sciences are more at ease in terms of psychological symptoms when compared to those observed at public high school students who admitted having more psychological problems. It was observed that general health patterns of students of high school of sciences are better than those of public school students. However, it was found that psychological symptoms and general health patterns of adolescents did not vary significantly according to the variation of sociometric status.
