The Investigation of Hopelessness Levels of Preservice Art Teachers
Abstract
The aim of this survey was to determine the hopelessness levels of the pre-service art teachers and to investigate whether or not their hopelessness levels differed according to
gender and grade variables. The research was descriptive survey model and was carried out on 198 students attending Department of Art Teaching of department in a state university within the province of Istanbul in 2012-2013 academic years. The data on pre-service art teachers` hopelessness levels were collected by Beck Hopelessness Scale which was improved by Beck et al (1974) and was consisted of 20 items. Data were evaluated with Mann Whitney U Krusskal Wallis test. The mean score of hopelessness of pre-service teachers was found as 3.88 3.16 and hopelessness mean point of the students was low.
Additionally, the results suggested that there were no significant differences among the hopelessness levels of the students in terms of gender and grade variables.
