An Experimental Study to Develop Parents’ Problem Solving Skills
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to prepare an education program that develop parents
problem solving skill and to test its efficiency. In order to reach this goal, 20 for the
experiment and 20 for the control groups making a total of forty subjects from the
Istanbul have been analyzed. “Problem Solving Inventory”, “Family Life and Child
Rearing Attitudes Scale” were used for pre and post-test applications. The samples in
experiment and control groups were consisted of people between the ages of 20-to 40
years at least graduated from high school and have children in preschool period. The
developed program was applied in 10 sessions that took 90 minutes per week. In order to
analyze the data t-test and ANOVA 2x2 were used. Data, obtained from Problem Solving
Inventory scores and 4 scales of “Family Life and Child Rearing Attitudes Scale” (the
scales of Over Protective Motherhood, Refusing Being Housewife, Spouse
Incompatibility, Pressure and Discipline), excluding Democratic Act and Equality,
showed that subject group’s post test scores were significantly different from subject
group’s pre-test, control group’s pre and post test scores.
“Parent’s Problem Solving Skill Development Program” was found effective in
order to develop parent’s problem solving skill and this effect made positive changes on
parenthood life.
