The Effect of Drama Technic on the Student Success in Science Lesson

Abstract

In primary school, science lessons includes basic science concepts and facts of life. In
science lessons, teachers have to use proper methods and technics to help the students
learning the concepts and the relations between them correctly and reminding the subjects that
the students learnt easily. One of them is drama technic. In drama activities students
dramatize a subject by role playing and in this technic they learn the subject by practicing and
living.
The aim of this research is finding the effect of drama technic on academic success
and remembering the subjects that the students learnt. Thus, drama technic was used on
teaching “electricity” subject in 6th class science lesson. This research was experienced in a
primary school in Ümraniye in Istanbul in the educational season 1999-2000. In this research,
one class in this school was taught with as direct expression and question-answer technics
classically, another class was taught with drama technic in addition to the classical method.
For measuring the achievement “electricity test” that was checked by the expert , 80% reliable
, was prepared by the researcher. This test was used before applying the method as “pre-test”,
after just applying the method as “final-test” and after 8 weeks from finishing the method as
“remembering-test”. The results were evaluated on the computer by SPSS packet programme.
According to the results, using drama technic in science lesson makes the students remember
the subjects that they learnt more easily than the classical method. It is clear that with drama
technic the students forgot the subjects less than the other group because of not memorizing
but understanding and living.

Fen Bilgisi Dersinde Drama Tekniğinin Öğrenci Başarısına Etkisi

Abstract

İlköğretim Fen Bilgisi Dersi, temel fen kavramlarını içeren yaşamla iç içe olan bir
derstir. Fen Bilgisi Derslerinde, öğrencilerin kavramları ve kavramlar arasındaki ilişkileri
doğru olarak öğrenmesi ve öğrendiklerini daha kolay hatırlaması için öğretmenlerin uygun
yöntem ve teknikler kullanması gerekmektedir. Bu yöntem ve tekniklerden biri de drama
tekniğidir. Drama aktivitelerinde öğrenciler, çeşitli roller alarak konuyu dramatize halinde
sunarlar ve bu teknikle, yaparak yaşayarak öğrenirler.
Bu araştırmanın amacı; ilköğretim Fen Bilgisi Dersinde drama tekniğinin
kullanımının, akademik başarıya ve öğrencilerin öğrendiklerini hatırlamasına etkisinin olup
olmadığını araştırmaktır. Bu amaçla, 6. sınıf Fen Bilgisi Dersindeki “Elektrik” konusunun
öğretilmesinde drama tekniği kullanılmıştır. Araştırma, 1999-2000 eğitim-öğretim yılı
İstanbul ili Ümraniye ilçesindeki bir ilköğretim okulunda yapılmıştır. Araştırmada bu
okuldaki bir sınıfa düz anlatım, soru-cevap gibi tekniklerle klasik olarak, diğer bir sınıfa da
bunlara ek olarak drama tekniğiyle ders anlatılmıştır. Öğrencilerin ders başarılarını ölçmek
için araştırmacı tarafından geliştirilen ve uzman kontrolünden geçen % 80 oranında güvenilir
olan “Elektrik Konusu Testi” hazırlanmıştır. Bu test; uygulamadan önce “ön test”,
uygulamadan hemen sonra “son test” ve uygulama bittikten 8 hafta sonra “hatırlama testi”
olarak kullanılmıştır. Bulunan sonuçlar, bilgisayar ortamında SPSS paket programında
değerlendirilmiştir. Elde edilen bulgulara dayanılarak Fen Bilgisi Dersinde drama tekniğiyle
ders işleyen öğrencilerin, klasik yönteme göre öğrendiklerini daha kolay hatırladıkları
bulunmuştur. Buna göre drama tekniğiyle öğrencilerin öğretilen bilgileri, ezberleyerek değil
anlayarak ve yaşayarak öğrendikleri için, diğer gruba göre daha az unuttukları söylenebilir.
