The Case of Turkey in the Context of Factors Affecting Finland’s Success in PISA
Abstract
In this study, low scores of Turkey in PISA were evaluated with respect to the contextual
factors of Finland’s success. Th ree factors that aff ect Finnish success such as schools,
teachers and administrators’ roles in educational processes and teacher training were investigated
in the study. Face to face interviews were conducted with twenty teachers and
educational administrators. Th e content analysis was used to analyze the data. Teacher
professionalism, extracurricular activities, internal and external evaluation, support for
education, exams prepared by teachers, rewarding practices and adaptation of change
were evaluated and some recommendations were made for researchers, practitioners and
policy makers.
