The purpose of ıhe study was to investigate the reliability and validity of the Automatic Thoughts Questionnaire-Revised (ATO-R) in high school students. The subjects of the study were
a total of 485 students (248 female and 237 male) with ages between 15 and 18 ( X = 16.58). The lesting of the transliteral equivalance of the scale showed thaı the new Turkish scale could be considered as havıng the high quaiity of transliteral equivalance to the original scale. The split-half reliability of the ATO-R was found to be r=.82 and Cronbach's alpha was r=,92. Item-total correlaıions ranged between.29 and.62. The revised scale could discriminate betvveen the depressive and non-depressive groups. Factor analysis yielded four interpretable factors. The concurrent validity was measured by the use of BDI and STAI-T. The correlations of ATO-R to these measııres were r=.70 and r=.6l, respectively. The resulıs of ıhe study suggest that this scale is a reliable and valid measure of negative automatic thoughts for high schooi students and may provc useful in testing theory-based prcdictions.
