The Mediating Role of Cognitive Flexibility in the Relation between Positivity and Career Adaptability in University Students

Year 2024, Volume: 60 Issue: 60, 172 - 189, 28.06.2024

Abstract

Career adaptability is crucial for university students transitioning into the workforce. Understanding factors that influence career adaptability can enhance alignment with future careers. This study explores how cognitive flexibility mediates the relationship between positivity and career adaptability using structural equation modeling. The sample comprised 549 university students (397 female, 148 male, 4 unspecified gender) with a mean age of 22.14 (SD = 3.07). Data were collected through the Positivity Scale, Cognitive Flexibility Inventory, Career Adapt-Abilities Scale Short Form, and a demographic information form. Analysis included descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation, confirmatory factor analysis, structural equation modeling, and bootstrapping. Results showed significant positive correlations among positivity, cognitive flexibility, and career adaptability. Bootstrapping indicated that cognitive flexibility mediated the relationship between positivity and career adaptability. These findings are discussed within relevant literature.

Üniversite Öğrencilerinde Pozitiflik ve Kariyer Uyumluluğu İlişkisinde Bilişsel Esnekliğin Aracılık Rolü

Year 2024, Volume: 60 Issue: 60, 172 - 189, 28.06.2024
