Araştırmacı Tarafından Tasarlanan ve ChatGPT ile Oluşturulan Analojilerin 6. Sınıf Öğrencilerinin Akademik Başarılarına ve Kavramları Günlük Yaşamla İlişkilendirme Becerilerine Etkisi: Solunum Sistemi Örneği

Öz

Yapay zekâ (YZ) teknolojileri, kişiselleştirilmiş öğrenmeyi desteklemek ve öğretim stratejilerini geliştirmek amacıyla eğitim ortamlarında giderek daha fazla entegre edilmektedir. Bu çalışma, bir araştırmacı tarafından geliştirilen analojiler ile yapay zekâ aracı ChatGPT tarafından oluşturulan analojilerin, altıncı sınıf öğrencilerinin solunum sistemini anlama düzeyleri ve bilimsel kavramları günlük yaşamla ilişkilendirme becerileri üzerindeki etkilerini incelemektedir. Araştırma, gerçek sınıf koşullarında YZ destekli ve araştırmacı tasarımı analojilerin öğretimsel etkililiğini karşılaştırarak literatürdeki mevcut bir boşluğu doldurmayı amaçlamaktadır. Çalışmada, ön test–son test kontrol gruplu yarı deneysel desen kullanılmıştır. Örneklemi, 2023–2024 eğitim öğretim yılında Türkiye’nin Bilecik ilindeki bir devlet okulunda öğrenim gören 65 altıncı sınıf öğrencisi oluşturmaktadır. Öğrenciler, iki deney ve bir kontrol grubu olmak üzere üç gruba ayrılmıştır. Deney gruplarına sırasıyla araştırmacı tarafından geliştirilen veya ChatGPT tarafından üretilen analojilerle zenginleştirilmiş öğretim uygulanırken, kontrol grubuna geleneksel yöntemlerle ders verilmiştir. Veriler, normallik için Kolmogorov–Smirnov testi, tek yönlü ANOVA ve Tukey HSD post-hoc karşılaştırmaları kullanılarak analiz edilmiştir. Analiz sonuçları, her iki analoji temelli öğretim grubunun da kontrol grubuna kıyasla anlamlı düzeyde daha yüksek akademik başarı gösterdiğini ortaya koymuştur; ancak iki deney grubu arasında anlamlı bir fark bulunmamıştır. Ek olarak, nitel bulgular, öğrencilerin her iki tür analojiyi de kavramsal anlamayı geliştirme, motivasyonu artırma ve sınıf içeriğini günlük yaşamla ilişkilendirme açısından faydalı bulduklarını göstermiştir. Bazı öğrenciler ise analojilerin etkisinin görsel materyaller, videolar ve uygulamalı etkinliklerle desteklenerek artırılabileceğini ifade etmiştir. Genel olarak bulgular, ChatGPT gibi yapay zekâ araçlarının, sağlam pedagojik ilkeler ve araştırmacı uzmanlığı ile yönlendirildiğinde fen öğretimini destekleyebileceğini göstermektedir. Bu çalışma, YZ temelli içerik üretiminin öğretim uygulamalarına entegre edilmesinin, fen eğitiminde hem bilişsel hem de duyuşsal öğrenme çıktılarının gelişmesine katkı sağlayabileceğini vurgulamaktadır.

The Effect of Researcher-Designed and ChatGPT-Generated Analogies on 6th Grade Students' Academic Achievement and Ability to Relate Concepts to Daily Life: The Case of the Respiratory System

Öz

Artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly used in education to support personalized learning and innovative teaching strategies. This study examines the effects of researcher-designed and ChatGPT-generated analogies on 6th-grade students’ understanding of the respiratory system and their ability to connect scientific concepts with daily life. Addressing a gap in the literature, the research compares the instructional effectiveness of AI-supported and researcher-created analogies in authentic classroom settings. A quasi-experimental pre-test post-test control group design was employed with 65 students from a public school in Bilecik, Türkiye, during the 2023–2024 academic year. Students were assigned to two experimental groups and one control group: the former received analogy-based instruction, while the latter was taught conventionally. Data were analysed using Kolmogorov–Smirnov tests, one-way ANOVA, and Tukey HSD. Results indicated that both experimental groups outperformed the control group in academic achievement, though no significant difference emerged between researcher- and ChatGPT-based analogies. Qualitative findings highlighted that students perceived both approaches as beneficial for enhancing conceptual understanding, motivation, and real-life connections. Some suggested incorporating visuals, videos, and hands-on activities to strengthen analogy effectiveness. Overall, the study demonstrates that AI tools like ChatGPT, when aligned with pedagogical principles, can enrich science education and foster cognitive and affective learning outcomes.
