Amaç: Bu araştırmada, yoğun bakım ünitelerinde çalışan hemşirelerin uyku kalitesini ve tıbbi hataya eğilimlerini değerlendirmek amaçlandı. Yöntem: Tanımlayıcı tipteki bu araştırma Mart-Haziran 2022 tarihleri arasında Ankara ilindeki iki devlet üniversitesi hastanesinin yoğun bakım ünitelerinde çalışan 190 hemşire ile yürütüldü. Araştırma verileri Tanıtıcı Bilgi Formu, Pittsburgh Uyku Kalitesi İndeksi (PUKİ) ve Tıbbi Hataya Eğilim Ölçeği (THEÖ) ile yüz yüze toplandı. Bulgular: Hemşirelerin PUKİ puan ortalaması (7.64±3.51) uyku kalitelerinin, THEÖ puan ortalaması (230.87±3.51) da tıbbi hataya eğilimlerinin düşük olduğunu gösterdi. PUKİ puanı >5 olan hemşirelerin tıbbi hataya eğilim ölçeği toplam puanı ile hastane enfeksiyonları ve düşmeler alt boyut puanları PUKİ puanı ≤ 5 olanlardan düşüktü (p<0.05). Hemşirelerin uyku sorunu ve mesai saatlerindeki değişikliğin PUKİ puanını (p<0.05), uyku sağlığı hakkında eğitim alma ve tıbbi hata yapma durumunun THEÖ puanını anlamlı olarak etkilediği belirlendi (p<0.05). Sonuç: Araştırma sonuçları, yoğun bakım hemşirelerinin uyku kalitesinin düşük olmasının tıbbi hataya eğilimlerini artırdığını gösterdi. Uyku sorunu ve mesai saatlerindeki değişiklikler hemşirelerin uyku kalitesini azaltmaktadır. Tıbbi hata yapmış olma hemşirelerin tıbbi hataya eğilimini artırırken, uyku sağlığı hakkında eğitim almış olma azaltmaktadır. Yoğun bakım hemşirelerinde uyku kalitesinin ve tıbbi hataya eğilim üzerindeki etkisinin değerlendirilmesi, hemşirelerin uyku kalitesini iyileştirmeye ve tıbbi hataya eğilimlerinin azaltmaya yönelik stratejilerin geliştirilmesi için gereklidir.
Aim: This study evaluated the sleep quality and the tendency to medical errors among intensive care nurses. Method: This descriptive study was conducted with 190 nurses working in the intensive care units of two state university hospitals in Ankara between March and June 2022. Research data were collected face to face using the Introductory Information Form, Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), and Medical Error Proneness Scale (THES). Results: Nurses' PSQI mean score (7.64±3.51) showed poor sleep quality, while the mean THES score (230.87±3.51) showed a low tendency to medical errors. The medical error proneness scale total score and nosocomial infections and falls subscale scores of nurses with a PSQI score >5 were lower compared to those with a PSQI score ≤ 5 (p<0.05). It was determined that sleep problems and changes in working hours significantly affected the PSQI score (p<0.05), and receiving training on sleep health and making medical errors significantly affected the THES score (p<0.05). Conclusion: Research results showed that the poor sleep quality in intensive care nurses increased their tendency to medical errors. Sleep problems and changes in working hours reduce nurses’ sleep quality. Having made a medical error increases the tendency to make further errors, while receiving training on sleep health decreases this tendency. Evaluating sleep quality in intensive care nurses and its impact on medical error tendency is necessary for developing strategies to improve nurses' sleep quality and reduce their tendency to make medical error.
