IDENTIFYING TARGET WORDS IN VOCABULARY INSTRUCTION

Abstract

Enhancing vocabulary of students is one of the essential objectives of Turkish lesson. Because their success in comprehension and expression skills possible via rich vocabulary. Multiple issues are existing for effective vocabulary instruction. Prior one of these issues is choosing of objective words. However, there are no explanation about directions in curriculum and text books. Vocabulary activities in Turkish lessons are implementing within the framework of the book writers’ choice of words. Irregularity and arbitrariness are seen in existing implementations, yet objective words should be chosen systematically and purposefully in effective vocabulary instruction. This case doesn’t let enhancing vocabulary activities to be successful at the desired level. In foreign sources, the issue of choosing procedures is not arranged for choosing words, but on the other hand some approaches are mentioned. In this study, factors that effect choice of words are told firstly. After that aforementioned approaches in choice of words in foreign sources are presented
