A NEW MULTI-PEDAGOGICAL APPROACH: COMMUNITY SERVICE-LEARNING
Abstract
Within the scope of teacher training cirriculum updating pursuant to the contemporary
teacher training considerations, Yök was decided in the academic year of 2006
that a course called community service practices must be involved in the cirriculum of
education faculties. Based on Community Service-Learning, (CSL) with the lesson of
community service it is expected that preservice teachers determine the current problems
of society and develop projects to solutions of these problems. Therefore, they acquire
awareness for being sensitive and participant to communal living and society.
CSL lesson activities are implemented out of the classroom i.e. directly in the
community. It enables students to use their personal initiative because it dont surround
them with scholl walls. It must be seen as an important experience area in terms participation
in various social responsibility projects as volunteer, acquisition of basic knowledge
and skills for the application of the community service learning in the schools.
The purpose of this study is to form a frame for multi pedagogical in the context
of the community service learning lesson by considering its being new in our
country.
In this regard, by examining community service courses’ theoreticalbasis, framework,
intended audiences, international implementations,it is expected to contribute
to creating a theoretical basis for community service courses in our country.
Concordantly, it is anticipated that the study make a contribution to form a
applicable model for Turkey by presenting theoretical bases, application areas, target
group and international applications.
