THE ROLE OF CULTURE IN FOREIGN LANGUAGE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT

Abstract

Culture and language are two components of a society that cannot be separated from each other. In foreign language teaching, teaching only grammar will not always help learners communicate efficiently in the target language. However, presenting the language with its cultural components provides learners with the realistic use of the language through which they can become conversant with the target culture. Keeping this issue in mind, this study aims to present the importance of teaching culture and some key considerations in teaching and learning a foreign language.

Öz

Kültür ve dil bir toplumu oluşturan ve bir birinden ayrılmayan ikiönemli öğedir. Yabancı dil öğretiminde, sadece dil bilgisi öğretimiyle öğrencilerin hedef dilde etkili bir şekilde iletişim kurmaları mümkün değildir. Ancak,dili kültürel unsurlarla birlikte sunmak hedef kültürü tanımak için dili gerçekkullanımıyla sunmak iletişimi daha kolay hale getirmektedir. Bu konunun önemini göz önünde bulunduran bu çalışma ile kültür öğretiminin önemi ve yabancı dil öğretiminde dikkat edilmesi gereken önemli noktalara değinmek hedeflenmektedir
