THE VIEWS OF TEACHERS ON THE ACTIVITIES IN THE MATHEMATIC TEXT BOOKS OF THE FOURTH AND THE FIFTH CLASSES IN PRIMARY EDUCATION

Abstract

The purpose of this study to investigate the views of teachers about the activities in mathematic text books of the fourth and fifth classes in primary education prepared by the Ministry of Education and to evaluate these activities depending on the views of teachers. The population in this study was primary schools in the city center of Bolu and Gerede in second semester of 2005-2006 academic years. The sample consisted of 177 teachers from 34 primary schools in this population have been chosen by simple random sampling method. The data was collected a questionnaire developed by the researchers and was analyzed using by Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS 13.0) statistical packet program. Data analysis showed as frequency, percentage dispersion, factor analysis and ANOVA tables. According to 55 % of the teachers, the activities in the textbooks are coherent with the activities in the program and also the activities in the textbooks can be partially associated with the daily life by the students, and these activities are in the level of slow learners. Moreover, they argue that the assisting equipment for both program and activities are not available.
