TEACHING FOREIGN LANGUAGE AND ETHICS

Abstract

The ethics in language learning means providing education which is based on language teaching methodology. It is aimed to decrease the degree of anxiety either caused by the teachers’ behaviours, learners’ expectations or biases related with language learning. Depending on the ethical standards, the roles of the teacher are addressing the cognitive domains of the students in order to provide a better learning atmosphere better and removing the biases which demotivate students. Moreover, it is important for teacher to recognize the values of both cultures, to appreciate the target language culture as a kind of richness, but to be aware of the ideas concerning cultural imperialism that is conveyed with language teaching. Teacher must be considered as a factor that makes use of cultural values to enrich the learning environment rather than imposing it to students native culture. Language teaching that is based on ethical codes is assumed to be more effective, cognitive, humanistic and anxiety free learning enviroment in the schools.
