Experiences of Social Studies Teacher Candidates Regarding Distance Education Applications: An Evaluation in The Context of Education 4.0

Abstract

Technological developments have led to changes in many sectors around the world, and distance education practices in the field of education have led to a rethinking of traditional education. This situation has made the concept of Education 4.0 important. The aim of this study is to reveal the views of pre-service social studies teachers who experience the distance education process towards distance education. This research was conducted with a phenomenological design, one of the qualitative research designs. The research was conducted at the Faculty of Education of a state university in the Eastern Anatolia region in the spring semester of the 2022-2023 academic year. The data were collected from a total of 45 pre-service social studies teachers through an interview form developed by the researcher. The content analysis method, one of the qualitative analysis methods, was used to analyze the data. According to the results of the study, pre-service teachers mostly used opportunities such as attending live lectures, uploading files and watching videos in the distance education process; they also benefited from other features such as homework tracking and group work. Students generally followed the lectures by recording or watching the lectures live. Among the positive aspects of distance education, course repetition, flexibility in time and space, financial savings and development of technological skills were highlighted, while the negative aspects were identified as internet and connection problems, focusing difficulties, social isolation and exam security concerns.

Uzaktan Eğitim Uygulamalarına Yönelik Sosyal Bilgiler Öğretmen Adaylarının Deneyimleri: Eğitim 4.0 Bağlamında Bir Değerlendirme

Abstract

Teknolojik gelişmeler dünyada birçok sektörde değişikliklere neden olmuş, eğitim alanında uzaktan eğitim uygulamaları geleneksel eğitimin yeniden gözden geçirilmesini sağlamıştır.. Bu durum Eğitim 4.0 kavramını önemli hale getirmiştir. Bu araştırmanın amacı, uzaktan eğitim sürecini deneyimleyen Sosyal Bilgiler öğretmen adaylarının uzaktan eğitime yönelik görüşlerini ortaya çıkarmaktır. Bu araştırma, nitel araştırma desenlerinden olgu bilim deseni ile yürütülmüştür.. Araştırma, 2022-2023 akademik yılı bahar döneminde Doğu Anadolu bölgesinde bulunan bir devlet üniversitesinin Eğitim Fakültesinde gerçekleştirilmiştir. Araştırmanın verileri araştırmacı tarafından geliştirilen Görüşme Formu aracılığıyla toplam 45 Sosyal Bilgiler öğretmen adayından toplanmıştır. Verilerin analizinde nitel analiz yöntemlerinden içerik analizi yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Araştırma sonuçlarına göre; öğretmen adayları, uzaktan eğitim sürecinde en çok canlı derse katılma, dosya yükleyebilme ve video izleme gibi olanakları kullanmış; ödev takibi ve grup çalışmaları gibi diğer özelliklerden de faydalanmışlardır. Öğrenciler, dersleri genellikle kayıt izleme ile gerçekleştirmiş veya canlı olarak takip etmiştir. Uzaktan eğitimin olumlu yönleri arasında ders tekrar imkânı, zaman ve mekân esnekliği, maddi tasarruf ve teknolojik becerilerin gelişimi öne çıkarken, olumsuz yönler ise internet ve bağlantı problemleri, odaklanma zorlukları, sosyal izolasyon ve sınav güvenliği endişeleri olarak belirlenmiştir. Bu bağlamda paydaşlara teknolojik alt yapının güçlendirilmesi, geri bildirim ve destek hizmetlerinin sağlanması ile sanal sınıf ortamlarının daha etkili kullanılabilirliği çerçevesinde öneriler sunulmuştur.
