Relationship Between Prosocial Behavior and Intervention in Bullying in Children: The Mediating Role of Family Support
Abstract
This study aims to examine the mediating role of family support in the relationship between prosocial behavior and bystander intervention in bullying among children. The research was conducted using data collected from a total of 386 students in 4th, 5th, and 6th grades. Data were gathered through the Child–Parent Relationship Scale, the Child Prosocial Behavior Scale, and the Bystander Intervention in Bullying Scale. Statistical analyses included descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, and mediation analysis. The findings revealed a positive and significant relationship between children's prosocial behavior and their tendency to intervene in bullying. Additionally, a positive and significant relationship was also found between family support and bystander intervention. Mediation analysis indicated that family support played a partial mediating role in the relationship between prosocial behavior and bystander intervention. These results highlight the critical role of prosocial behavior and family support in combating bullying. The study may contribute to the development of school-based intervention programs. It also provides guidance for planning counseling services aimed at strengthening family relationships and enhancing children's social skills. The findings underscore the necessity of a multidimensional approach in addressing bullying.
