The Relationship Between Teachers' Views on Organizational Culture And Critical Thinking Tendencies

Abstract

The present study aims to determine the relationship between teachers' views on organizational culture and their critical thinking tendencies. The population of the study consists of teachers working in primary, middle, and high schools in the central city and districts of Muğla during the 2021- 2022 academic year. The sample of the study consists of 377 teachers, representing the population at a 95% confidence level. The study is a survey model. The School Culture Scale developed by Terzi (2005) and the Florida Critical Thinking Tendencies Scale developed by Ertaş Kılıç and Şen (2014) were used as data collection tools in the study. Descriptive statistics and regression analysis were used in the analysis of the data. According to the research findings, teachers' views on organizational culture and critical thinking tendencies are above average in both scales' sub-dimensions. Teachers' views on organizational culture did not differ according to demographic variables. Only the participation dimension of critical thinking tendencies differed significantly according to gender. The success and task dimensions of organizational culture are significant predictors of the participation sub-dimension of critical thinking tendencies. The support, success, bureaucratic, and task dimensions of organizational culture are significant predictors of the cognitive maturity dimension of critical thinking tendencies. The success, bureaucratic, and task dimensions of organizational culture are significant predictors of the innovation dimension of critical thinking tendencies. Given that the research found a positive relationship between organizational culture and critical thinking tendencies, it can be suggested that schools should create an organizational culture that supports teachers' critical thinking tendencies by organizing meetings, social activities, and training that supports social skills.
