Öz

Bu çalışmada 6 Şubat Kahramanmaraş depremlerinden sağ kalan bireylerin depreme yönelik algılarının metaforlar aracılığıyla incelenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Araştırmaya yaşları 12-76 arasında değişen 207 kadın, 148 erkek olmak üzere toplam 355 birey katılım sağlamıştır. Katılımcılardan “Deprem…. gibidir. Çünkü….”cümlesini tamamlamaları istenmiş ve verilen yanıtlar içerik analizi tekniğiyle incelenmiştir. Katılımcılar 51 çoğul, 74 tekil olmak üzere toplamda 125 farklı metafor üretmişlerdir. Bu metaforlar “ölüm ve sonrası”, “yıkıcı güç”, “gerçek dışılık”, “duygusal durum”, “doğal olay”, “ikaz”, “zorlayıcı yaşam olayı” ve “beşeri ve fiziksel” olmak üzere sekiz kategoride gruplandırılmıştır. En çok üretilen metaforlar “kıyamet”, “ölüm”, “tahribat” ve “düşsel süreç” temalarında yer almıştır. Bu araştırma için İzmir Demokrasi Üniversitesi Sosyal ve Beşeri Bilimler Bilimsel Araştırma ve Yayın Etiği Kurulu’ndan 07/12/2023 tarih ve 2023/14-10 sayılı karar numarası ile Etik Kurul Onayı alınmıştır.

INVESTIGATION OF METAPHORIC PERCEPTIONS OF EARTHQUAKES BY INDIVIDUALS WHO SURVIVED THE KAHRAMANMARAS EARTHQUAKES

Öz

This study aimed to investigate the metaphorical perceptions of individuals who survived from the February 6 Kahramanmaras Earthquakes. A total of 355 individuals, 207 women and 148 men, aged between 12 and 76, participated in the research. Participants were asked to complete the sentence "An earthquake is like.... because...." and the responses were analyzed using content analysis technique. Participants generated a total of 125 different metaphors, comprising 51 recurrent and 74 unique metaphors. These metaphors were grouped into eight categories: "death and aftermath," "destructive force," "unreality," "emotional state," "natural event," "warning," "challenging life event," and "human and physical." The most frequently produced metaphors fell under the themes of "apocalypse," "death," "destruction," and "imaginary process.". Ethical approval for this research was obtained from the Scientific Research and Publication Ethics Committee of the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences at Izmir Democracy University, with the decision dated 07/12/2023 and numbered 2023/14-10.
