Abstract

Bugünlerde, insani yardım lojistiği ve çevresel sürdürülebilirlik arasındaki bağlantı, insani yardım kuruluşlarının en önemli odak noktalarından biri haline gelmiştir. Çevresel felaketlerin, silahlı çatışmaların ve iklim değişikliğinin etkilerinin artması, insani yardım operasyonlarına olan ihtiyacı artırırken, aynı zamanda bu operasyonların çevresel etkilerini de gözler önüne sermektedir. İnsani yardım kuruluşları, bu zorluklarla etkili bir şekilde başa çıkabilmek için çevresel sürdürülebilirlik ilkelerine sadık kalmak zorundadır. İnsani yardım lojistiğinde, hız ve verimlilik gibi geleneksel hedeflerin ötesinde, çevresel sürdürülebilirlik unsurları da giderek daha fazla önem kazanmaktadır. Sürdürülebilirlik ilkelerinin lojistik süreçlere dahil edilmesi, yalnızca çevresel etkileri azaltmakla kalmaz, aynı zamanda insani müdahalelerin sürdürülebilirliğini sağlamak ve krizden etkilenen toplulukların uzun vadeli iyileşmelerini desteklemek açısından hayati bir rol oynamaktadır. Bu süreçte, maliyet ve kaynak verimliliği artırılırken, doğal kaynakların korunması ve karbon salınımının azaltılması gibi çevresel hedeflere de ulaşmak mümkün olmaktadır. Bu çalışma, insani yardım lojistiği ve çevresel sürdürülebilirlik arasındaki ilişkileri derinlemesine inceleyerek, sürdürülebilirlik odaklı yaklaşımların operasyonel süreçlere nasıl entegre edilebileceğini araştırmaktadır. Birleşmiş Milletler ve diğer insani yardım kuruluşlarının atık yönetimi, tersine lojistik, sürdürülebilir tedarik zincirleri ve döngüsel ekonomi gibi sürdürülebilirlik temelli projeleri değerlendirilecektir. Bu çerçevede, saha operasyonlarında çevresel etkilerin azaltılmasına yönelik uygulamalar ve yenilikçi çözümler analiz edilerek, insani yardım sektöründe sürdürülebilirliğin rolü ve gelecekteki gelişim alanları tartışılacaktır. Ayrıca, DP World, UPS ve Agility gibi özel sektör oyuncularının sürdürülebilirlik uygulamaları, insani yardım lojistiğindeki önemli rolü ve bu uygulamaların sosyal, çevresel ve ekonomik alanlarda sağladığı faydalar detaylı bir şekilde ele alınacaktır. Çalışma, insani yardım operasyonlarında sürdürülebilirlik hedeflerine ulaşmak için iş birliği, yenilikçi teknolojiler ve verimli kaynak yönetimi stratejilerinin önemini vurgulamaktadır.

ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY AND HUMANITARIAN AID LOGISTICS: SUPPORTIVE PRACTICES AND STRATEGIES

Abstract

Nowadays, the connection between humanitarian aid logistics and environmental sustainability has become one of the main focuses of humanitarian organizations. The increasing impacts of environmental disasters, armed conflicts, and climate change not only raise the need for humanitarian operations but also highlight the environmental effects of these operations. Humanitarian organizations must adhere to environmental sustainability principles to effectively address these challenges. In humanitarian aid logistics, environmental sustainability factors are becoming increasingly important, beyond traditional goals such as speed and efficiency. Integrating sustainability principles into logistics processes not only reduces environmental impacts but also plays a crucial role in ensuring the sustainability of humanitarian interventions and supporting the long-term recovery of affected communities. In this process, while cost and resource efficiency are improved, it is also possible to achieve environmental goals such as natural resource conservation and the reduction of carbon emissions. This study deeply examines the relationship between humanitarian aid logistics and environmental sustainability and explores how sustainability-focused approaches can be integrated into operational processes. The study will assess sustainability-based projects such as waste management, reverse logistics, sustainable supply chains, and circular economy initiatives by the United Nations and other humanitarian organizations. In this context, practices and innovative solutions for reducing environmental impacts in field operations will be analyzed, and the role of sustainability in the humanitarian aid sector and future development areas will be discussed. Additionally, the sustainability practices of private sector players such as DP World, UPS, and Agility, their significant role in humanitarian aid logistics, and the benefits these practices provide in the social, environmental, and economic areas will be thoroughly discussed. The study emphasizes the importance of collaboration, innovative technologies, and efficient resource management strategies to achieve sustainability goals in humanitarian operations.
