Author Guidelines

1. General Information

Novus Orbis: Journal of Politics and International Relations is an international, peer-reviewed, open-access academic journal publishing original scholarly studies in political science and international relations.

The journal accepts only original manuscripts that have not been previously published and are not under consideration elsewhere.

All submissions must comply with the journal’s ethical standards and publication policies.


2. Article Types

The journal accepts the following types of submissions:

  • Research Articles
  • Review Articles
  • Book Reviews

3. Language Policy

The journal publishes manuscripts in English and Turkish.

Authors are responsible for ensuring linguistic and grammatical accuracy prior to submission.

The editorial team may reject manuscripts with inadequate language quality before peer review.


4. Submission Requirements

All manuscripts must be submitted through the DergiPark online submission system.

The following documents must be uploaded during submission:

  • Full manuscript
  • Title page
  • Author Declaration and Publishing Agreement
  • Ethics committee approval document (if applicable)

5. Formatting Requirements

Authors are required to prepare their manuscripts in accordance with the journal’s formatting rules.

Manuscripts should include:

  • Title
  • Abstract
  • Keywords
  • Main text
  • References

The manuscript must be prepared in Microsoft Word format.


6. Abstract and Keywords

Articles must include an abstract of approximately 150–250 words.

Authors should provide 4–6 keywords representing the main themes of the manuscript.


7. Citation and References

The journal uses the APA citation style.

Authors are responsible for the accuracy and completeness of all references.

References should include DOI information where available.


8. Ethical Requirements

Authors must comply with internationally recognised research and publication ethics principles.

Where required, ethics committee approval and institutional permissions must be obtained prior to submission.

Any form of plagiarism, fabrication, falsification, duplicate publication, or unethical academic conduct is strictly prohibited.


9. Plagiarism and Similarity Check

All submissions are screened using plagiarism detection software such as iThenticate and/or Turnitin before peer review.

The editorial team evaluates similarity reports qualitatively and does not rely solely on numerical similarity percentages.


10. AI-Assisted Content Policy

Authors must disclose any use of generative artificial intelligence tools (such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, or similar systems) in the preparation of the manuscript.

Artificial intelligence tools cannot be listed as authors.

Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, and integrity of their submissions.


11. ORCID Requirement

All authors are encouraged to provide their ORCID identifiers during submission.


12. Conflict of Interest

Authors must disclose any financial, institutional, or personal conflicts of interest that may affect the research or publication process.


13. Copyright and Licensing

Authors retain the copyright of their published work.

Published articles are licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International License (CC BY-NC 4.0).


14. Open Access Policy

Novus Orbis is a fully open-access journal.

The journal does not charge submission fees, article processing charges, publication fees, or access fees.


15. Manuscript Preparation Rules

Submissions must be written in either Turkish or English.

Research articles should normally be between 5,000 and 10,000 words, including footnotes and references. Authors are required to indicate the total word count during submission.

All manuscripts must include:

  • a title,
  • an abstract of approximately 150–250 words,
  • 4–6 keywords,
  • references.

Articles written in Turkish must additionally include an Extended Abstract in English consisting of approximately 750–800 words.

The author’s name should be written in 12-point bold italic font.

Author affiliation, institutional information, and contact details should be provided in a 10-point footnote on the first page.

The manuscript text must be prepared in:

  • Georgia font,
  • 12-point size,
  • single line spacing,
  • justified alignment.

Page margins must be arranged as follows:

  • Top: 3.5 cm
  • Bottom: 3.5 cm
  • Left: 4.5 cm
  • Right: 4.5 cm
  • Header: 1.25 cm
  • Footer: 1.5 cm

Paragraph settings should be:

  • first-line indentation: 1.25 cm,
  • spacing before paragraph: 3 pt,
  • spacing after paragraph: 3 pt,
  • justified alignment.

Subheadings should be formatted consistently throughout the manuscript.
