The First Step on Earth: The Peak and the Footprint of Adam

Abstract

Adam continues to be a controversial character for centuries or even millennia due to his integration with the cherished memory of genesis. Throughout history, he has been mentioned by some to understand the genesis, by some to grasp the first priest, and by some others to enhance solidarity between their followers while bestowing his provision for salvation in Jesus Christ. Therefore, humankind has attributed a great importance to everything associated with him. His footprint is one of them, which is said to be in Sri Lanka (Serendib). For many centuries, humankind has traveled to this place where perhaps Adam never stood, by passing through the places where he most likely lived. This paper first emphasizes on the subject of “heaven”, whose remembrance together with the names of Adam and Eve has become an axiom. The uncertainty on this subject focuses on whether the heaven is on the earth. The silence of holy books, which often mention about heaven, on such an important subject, apparently, has led to the creation of a large literature in this field. In general, studies on this subject have reported that Adam took his first step to Serendib. In fact, this study mainly discusses those who followed his traces in the Middle Ages.

Yeryüzüne Atılan İlk Adım: Âdem’in Tepesi ve Ayak İzi

Abstract

Yaratılışın aziz hatırasıyla bütünleşmesinden dolayı Hz. Âdem yüzyıllar hatta binyıllardır tartışılır bir karakter olmaya devam etmektedir. Tarih boyunca kimisi yaratılışı anlamak için, kimisi ilk dindarı kavramak için, ötekiler de safları sıkı tutmak gayesiyle İsa’ya kurtarıcılık payesini bahşederken onu anmadan edememişlerdir. Hâl böyle olunca, Âdemoğlu, onunla ilişkilendirilen her şeye büyük önem atfetmiştir. Sri Lanka (Serendib)’da olduğu söylenilen ona ait ayak izi de bunlardan biridir. Âdemoğlu yüzyıllarca, muhtemel ki Âdem’in yaşadığı yerlerden de geçerek, belki de Âdem’in hiç ayak basmadığı bu yere seyahat etmiştir. Bu makalede evvela Hz. Âdem ve Hz. Havva isimleri ile anılması âdeta bir mütearife haline gelen cennet konusuna temas edilmiştir. Bu konudaki belirsizliğin ise cennetin yeryüzünde olup olmadığı meselesi üzerine odaklandığı gözlemlenmiştir. Cennet bahsine çokça atıf yapan kutsal kitapların böylesine önemli bir mevzuda sessiz kalışı, anlaşılan o ki bu sahada genişçe bir literatürün oluşmasına kaynaklık etmiştir. Bu konudaki literatür tarandığında genel itibarıyla onun Serendib’e ilk adımını attığı bildirilmektedir. Esas olarak bu çalışma, Orta Çağ’da onun izini sürmüş olanları konu edinmektedir.
